Nuoruus on muutenkin herkk\u00e4\u00e4 aikaa identiteetin ja minuuden luomisen kannalta, mutta my\u00f6s kielimin\u00e4n sek\u00e4 kohdekielen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4n identiteetin luomisessa. Lis\u00e4ksi ulkopuoliset tekij\u00e4t, kuten vertaiset ja koti- ja kouluymp\u00e4rist\u00f6t vaikuttavat paljon, sek\u00e4 positiivisesti ett\u00e4 negatiivisesti, siihen kuinka osaaminen ja kielellinen kompetenssi kehittyv\u00e4t. Roolimallit voivat vaikuttaa toisen kielen oppimiseen joko positiivisesti tai negatiivisesti. Toisen kielen oppimismotivaatiota ja kieliasenteita on yleisesti tutkittu aika paljon (ks. esimerkiksi Al-Hoorie & MacIntyre, 2020 ja D\u00f6rnyei, 2001), mutta tutkimus nimenomaan positiivista ja negatiivisista roolimalleista Suomessa uupuu. Kieliasenteita Suomessa sek\u00e4 toisen kielen oppimismotivaatiota ovat tutkineet aiemmin muun muassa Kalaja j& Dufva (2005) sek\u00e4 Kalaja & Hyrkstedt (2000).\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus pyrkii selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, ket\u00e4 tai mit\u00e4 nuo positiiviset ja negatiiviset roolimallit nuorilla kielenoppijoilla Suomessa ovat. Roolimalleihin viitataan termeill\u00e4 idolit, \u201didols\u201d ja inhokit, \u201dpeeves\u201d. Ainestonkeruumenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin kirjallista kysely\u00e4, ja aineisto analysoitiin sek\u00e4 kvantitatiivisin ett\u00e4 kvalitatiivisin metodein. Yhteens\u00e4 126 suomalaista oppilasta kolmesta eri koulusta ja kahdelta eri luokka-asteelta osallistui tutkimukseen vuonna 2014. Tulosten avulla voidaan esimerkiksi kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 oppimateriaaleja vastaamaan paremmin oppilaiden mielenkiinnonkohteita.
