Nykyiset opetussuunnitelmat korostavat autenttisten tekstien t\u00e4rkeytt\u00e4 englanninopetuksessa monilukutaidon tukemiseksi. \u00c4\u00e4nikirjojen mahdollisuuksia ei ole tutkittu Suomessa juurikaan, etenk\u00e4\u00e4n nuorten kielen opiskelijoiden n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkielman tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 lukiolaisten n\u00e4kemykset \u00e4\u00e4nikirjoista englannin oppimisen ja lukemisen resurssina. Tutkielmassa haluttiin saada selville lukiolaisten omia kokemuksia juurikin englanninkielisen kirjallisuuden ja \u00e4\u00e4nikirjallisuuden parissa sek\u00e4 kartoittaa heid\u00e4n n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4\u00e4n \u00e4\u00e4nikirjojen hy\u00f6dyist\u00e4 englannin oppimisessa. Lis\u00e4ksi tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, mitk\u00e4 tekij\u00e4t vaikuttavat oppilaiden valintoihin ja kokemuksiin englanninkielisen lukemisen parissa. Tutkielman keski\u00f6ss\u00e4 olivat oppilaiden omat kokemukset ja n\u00e4kemykset, ja se toteutettiin kyselytutkimuksena, johon osallistui 34 lukiolaista. Kysely sis\u00e4lsi sek\u00e4 suljettuja ett\u00e4 avoimia kysymyksi\u00e4 liittyen oppilaiden kirjallisuuden kulutukseen, heid\u00e4n kirjapreferensseihins\u00e4 sek\u00e4 heid\u00e4n mielipiteisiins\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4nikirjojen hy\u00f6dyist\u00e4 englannin oppimisessa. Kysely toteutettiin helmikuussa 2024.\n\nTutkielmassa selvisi, ett\u00e4 suurin osa vastaajista kokee \u00e4\u00e4nikirjat hy\u00f6dylliseksi kielenoppimisen kannalta. Perinteinen kirja oli kuitenkin \u00e4\u00e4nikirjaa suositumpi lukemismuoto. \u00c4\u00e4nikirjojen hy\u00f6dyllisin\u00e4 ominaisuuksina n\u00e4htiin joustavuus ja kyky yhdist\u00e4\u00e4 lukeminen muuhun tekemiseen. Tutkielma on otoksen pienest\u00e4 koosta johtuen rajallinen, mutta se antaa osviittaa lukiolaisten n\u00e4kemyksist\u00e4 \u00e4\u00e4nikirjoista. Tuloksista k\u00e4y ilmi, ett\u00e4 lukiolaisten n\u00e4kemykset \u00e4\u00e4nikirjoista ja niiden hy\u00f6dyist\u00e4 kielenoppimisessa ovat p\u00e4\u00e4osin positiivisia. Current national curricula emphasize the importance of using authentic texts in English education to support multiliteracy. The potential of audiobooks has not been researched much in Finland, especially from the perspective of the students.\n\nThe purpose of this study was to find out about upper secondary students' perceptions of audiobooks as a resource for learning and reading in English. In this study, I wanted to learn about upper secondary students' personal experiences with English-language literature and audiobooks as well as scope out how they view the benefits of audiobooks in learning English. Additionally, the study aimed to find out what factors affect students' choices and experiences with reading in English. At the center of the study were the students' own experiences and perceptions; the study was conducted as a survey study that 34 upper secondary students participated in. The survey included both closed and open-ended questions regarding the students' reading habits and preferences, and their perceptions of the benefits of audiobooks in learning English. The survey was carried out in February 2024.\n\nThe study found that the majority of the respondents find audiobooks beneficial for language learning. However, a traditional book was the more popular form of reading. Positive aspects of audiobooks, according to the respondents, were flexibility and the possibility of combining the act of reading with another activity. Due to the small sample size, the study is limited, but it offers insight into upper secondary students' perceptions of audiobooks. The results show that the students' perceptions of audiobooks and their benefits are mostly positive.
