My\u00f6s medialla on oma roolinsa eri ihmisryhmien, my\u00f6s opettajien esitt\u00e4misess\u00e4 ja representaatiossa. Media sek\u00e4 luo representaatioita ett\u00e4 heijastelee yhteiskunnan arvoja ja niiden muutoksia. Opettajat ovatkin yhteiskunnallisesti merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 ammattikunta koulutusasemansa takia, mutta my\u00f6s siksi, ett\u00e4 jokaisella on tai on ollut henkil\u00f6kohtaisia kokemuksia opettajista.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, millaisia representaatioita opettajista mediassa luodaan. Selvitys tarkastelee kolmen sanomalehden, Helsingin Sanomien, The Indian Expressin ja The Washington Postin, otsikoita kahdella ajanjaksolla: ennen ja j\u00e4lkeen Covid-19-pandemian alun. Otsikoita analysoitiin kriittisen diskurssintutkimuksen ja sosiaalisten toimijoiden mallin avulla. Otsikoita tarkasteltiin sek\u00e4 sanatasolla ett\u00e4 laajemmassa yhteiskunnallisessa kontekstissa. Erityist\u00e4 huomiota kiinnitettiin sukupuolien representaatioeroihin.\n\nTutkimuksessa k\u00e4vi ilmi, ett\u00e4 opettajat esitet\u00e4\u00e4n p\u00e4\u00e4osin ammattiryhm\u00e4n\u00e4 ja harvemmin yksil\u00f6in\u00e4. Opettajat olivat otsikoissa enimm\u00e4kseen passiivia toimijoita, jotka esitettiin suhteessa koulutusorganisaatioon. Sukupuolittunut representaatio oli ennakoitua v\u00e4h\u00e4isemp\u00e4\u00e4, eik\u00e4 mediassa esitetty opettamista niin feminiinisen\u00e4 alana, kuin mit\u00e4 opettajien sukupuolijakauma voisi antaa odottaa. Pandemia muutti opettajien representaatiota, muttei lis\u00e4nnyt opettajien sankaridiskurssia, vaan vahvisti opettajien esitt\u00e4mist\u00e4 passiivisina ryhmin\u00e4.\n\nHavaintojen perusteella voidaan todeta, ett\u00e4 vaikka opettajien representaatio on mediassa p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa melko positiivista, j\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t opettajat usein oppilaitosten ja jopa oppilaiden varjoon. Opettajien representaatiotapojen tiedostaminen voi auttaa selitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n ja my\u00f6s vaikuttaa siihen, miten opettajia arvostetaan.
