To minimize damage caused by wildfires, the limited firefighting resources must be used correctly. In this thesis, a stochastic cellular automaton model for predicting the spread of forest fires using Finnish open data was produced. The model was used to simulate the Kalajoki 2021 forest fire with moderate results. The model has potential as a basis for a better wildfire model using Finnish open data.
