Hengitys- ja verenkiertoelimist\u00f6n fysioterapia on yksi fysioterapian erikoistumisaloista. Hengitysfysioterapian tavoitteena on erilaisia menetelmi\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en tukea hengitystoimintoja mm. erilaisissa hengityselinsairauksissa, joita sairastaa jopa noin miljoona suomalaista. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 fysioterapeuttiopiskelijoiden kokemuksia hengitysfysioterapian opetuksesta ammattikorkeakoulukontekstissa.\n\nTutkimus toteutettiin laadullisena haastattelututkimuksena fenomenologis-hermeneuttista metodologiaa hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en. Aineistonkeruu toteutettiin yksil\u00f6haastatteluina touko-kes\u00e4kuussa 2021. Tutkimukseen osallistui yhteens\u00e4 kuusi toisen tai kolmannen vuoden fysioterapeuttiopiskelijaa. Heid\u00e4t kaikki rekrytoitiin tutkimukseen samasta kohdeorganisaatiosta. Haastattelut litteroitiin sanatarkasti ja aineisto analysoitiin yksil\u00f6llisesti IPA-analyysi\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en.\n\nTutkimusaineistosta muodostui kuusivaiheisen IPA-analyysin tuloksena yhteens\u00e4 kahdeksan tutkittavaa ilmi\u00f6t\u00e4 kuvaavaa merkitysteemaa, jotka olivat: kokemukset (1) hengitysfysioterapian hyv\u00e4st\u00e4 opetuksellisesta sis\u00e4ll\u00f6st\u00e4 ja onnistuneesta opetuksen toteutuksesta, (2) opintojakson opetussis\u00e4lt\u00f6jen selkiytt\u00e4misen tarpeesta, (3) teoriaopetuksen priorisoinnin tarpeesta, (4) k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n harjoitustuntien ajank\u00e4yt\u00f6llisist\u00e4 ja oppimisymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6n liittyvist\u00e4 haasteista, (5) opetuksellisesta v\u00e4h\u00e4isyydest\u00e4 hengitysfysioterapeuttisessa tutkimisessa ja ohjaamisessa, (6) opetuksen selkeydest\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n harjoitustunneilla, (7) aitojen ohjauskokemusten merkityksellisyydest\u00e4 hengitysfysioterapiaopinnoissa ja (8) pulloon puhalluksen merkityksellisyydest\u00e4 hengitysfysioterapiassa. \n\nKyseess\u00e4 on tiett\u00e4v\u00e4sti ensimm\u00e4inen tutkimus, joka tarkastelee hengitysfysioterapian opetusta kokemuksellisena ilmi\u00f6n\u00e4. Fysioterapeuttiopiskelijat merkityksellistiv\u00e4t hengitysfysioterapian opetukseen liittyvi\u00e4 kokemuksiaan teoriaopetukseen, k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n opetukseen sek\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n harjoittelujaksoihin peilaten. Hengitysfysioterapian opetukseen kytkeytyv\u00e4 my\u00f6nteinen kokeminen n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyi aineistoissa kokemuksena hyv\u00e4st\u00e4 opetuksellisesta sis\u00e4ll\u00f6st\u00e4 sek\u00e4 onnistuneesta opetuksen toteutuksesta. Opetukseen liittyv\u00e4 kielteinen kokeminen n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyi puolestaan opetussis\u00e4lt\u00f6jen selkiytt\u00e4misen ja teoriaopetuksen priorisoinnin tarpeellisuutena sek\u00e4 k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n opetuksen ajank\u00e4yt\u00f6llisin\u00e4 haasteina. Respiratory physiotherapy aims to support breathing functions using various methods, i.a. in various respiratory diseases, which up to one million Finns suffer from. The teaching of respiratory physiotherapy is included as part of the physiotherapy degree program in universities of applied sciences in Finland. The purpose of this study was to explore physiotherapist students\u2019 experiences of the teaching of respiratory physiotherapy in the context of a university of applied sciences. The aim of the study was to expand the understanding of the experiences related to the teaching of respiratory physiotherapy, viewed from the perspective of physiotherapist students.\n\nThe study was conducted as a qualitative interview study using the phenomenological-hermeneutic research approach. The material was collected in May \u2013 June 2021 through individual interviews. A total of six second- or third-year physical therapy students participated the study. They were all recruited from the same university of applied sciences. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and the material was analyzed individually using IPA analysis.\n\nAs a result of the six-step IPA analysis, a total of eight experimental themes describing the research phenomenon were formed from the research material: experiences of (1) good educational content and successful teaching implementation of respiratory physiotherapy, (2) the need to clarify the teaching contents of the course, (3) the need to prioritize theory teaching, (4) time management and learning environment-related challenges of practical training classes, (5) the educational deficiency in respiratory physiotherapy inspection and instruction, (6) the clarity of teaching in practical training classes, (7) the importance of authentic patient instruction experiences in respiratory physiotherapy studies, (8) the importance of PEP- bottle exercise in respiratory physiotherapy.\n\nThis study is known to be the first study directly targeting the phenomenon under investigation. Physiotherapist students gave meaning to their experiences related to the teaching of respiratory physiotherapy by mirroring the experiences related to theory teaching, practical teaching and practical training periods. The positive experience connected to the teaching of respiratory physiotherapy appeared as an experience of good educational content and successful implementation of the teaching. On the contrary, the negative experience appeared as the need of clarifying the teaching content and prioritizing theory teaching, as well as the challenges of time management in practical teaching. The time management challenges continued to appear as an experience of occasional lack of teaching, which was reflected in the students' descriptions of the experience of uncertainty.
