Esikokeiden perusteella valitsin tutkimukseeni viherleviin kuuluvat Selenastrum sp. ja Monoraphidium griffithii -mikrolev\u00e4t. Tein yhteens\u00e4 kolme koetta, joista ensimm\u00e4isess\u00e4 lev\u00e4t kasvoivat elatusliuoksessa (WC), toisessa lev\u00e4t kasvoivat RAS-j\u00e4tevedess\u00e4 (WW), ja kolmannessa puolet levist\u00e4 kasvoi WC- ja puolet WW-liuoksessa. Levien yksin tai yhdess\u00e4 viljelyll\u00e4 ei ollut vaikutusta nitraattitypen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4n kokeen lopussa. Levien tilavuus kasvatuksen kokonaistilavuudesta muuttui osassa kokeista, kun levi\u00e4 kasvatettiin yhdess\u00e4. Algae may also be used to clean wastewater from nutrients. Previous studies suggest that algal polyculture can increase algal productivity and resilience against environmental disturbances. In my MSc thesis, I examined if using two algae species makes nutrient uptake from recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) wastewater more efficient than using algal monocultures. Based on preliminary results I chose two green microalgae species to be used in my experiments: Selenastrum sp. and Monoraphidium griffithii. In first experiment, I grew 12 cultures of algae for seven days in artificial growth medium. In the second and third experiments, I grew another two batches of 12 cultures for ten days each. In second experiment I used RAS wastewater (WW) and in the third experiment I grew six cultures in WC and other six in WW. There was no difference between duoculturing or monoculturing when it comes to the amount of nitrates at the end of the experiments. Duoculturing seems to have an effect on biovolume. Statistically significant results were observed between algae density and which culture (mono- or duoculture) was used. At the end of second experiment, where duoculture removed statistically significantly more phosphorus from WW than Selenastrum sp. monoculture.
