Videopeliteollisuus on kasvanut ja kehittynyt viime vuosina valtavasti. Erityisesti verkkomoninpelit ovat nyky\u00e4\u00e4n hyvin suosittuja ja virtuaalihy\u00f6dykkeet ovat olennainen osa niit\u00e4. Virtuaalihy\u00f6dykkeist\u00e4 on tullut yksi t\u00e4rkeimmist\u00e4 peleihin liittyvist\u00e4 ansaintamalleista ja siksi peliteollisuuden kannalta on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 miksi ihmiset ostavat virtuaalihy\u00f6dykkeit\u00e4 peleiss\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus jakautuu kahteen osaan. Ensin tutkimuksessa tehd\u00e4\u00e4n kirjallisuuskatsaus ja sen j\u00e4lkeen vuorossa on empiirinen osuus. Kirjallisuuskatsauksessa k\u00e4yd\u00e4\u00e4n l\u00e4pi, ett\u00e4 mit\u00e4 virtuaalihy\u00f6dykkeet ovat, millaisia ominaisuuksia niill\u00e4 on ja millaisin tavoin niit\u00e4 hy\u00f6dynnet\u00e4\u00e4n peleiss\u00e4. Kirjallisuuskatsauksen pohjalta luodaan teoreettinen viitekehys, jota k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n pohjana tutkimuksen empiiriselle osuudelle. Tutkimuksen empiirinen tutkimusmateriaali ker\u00e4ttiin puolisturoidulla teemahaastattelulla ja t\u00e4t\u00e4 materiaalia tulkittiin teemoittelun avulla. Tutkimustuloksissa nousi esille useita tekij\u00f6it\u00e4, jotka vaikuttavat virtuaalihy\u00f6dykkeiden ostamiseen. The video game industry has evolved and got much bigger in the recent years. Especially the online multiplayer games are nowadays popular, and the virtual goods are essential part of them. The virtual goods have become one of the most important revenue models in video games and that is why it is important for the gaming industry to understand, why people buy virtual goods in the video games. This study has two parts. At first there is a literature review and after that an empirical study. The literature review undergoes the explanation for the virtual goods, different kind of attributes they have and the ways they are utilized in video games. A theoretical framework that is used as a base for the empirical part of the study, is composed based on the literature review. The empirical material of the study is collected by doing a semi-structured theme interview and it is interpreted by using thematic design. The research results revealed different attributes, that have an affect to the buying of the virtual goods.
