In game situations, differences are obvious mainly because of tactical elements of game activities. Differences have occurred by various on-ice and off-ice tests of which many have correlated with each other. For example, general and specific speed and power tests have showed significant relationships whereas only low correlations between endurance tests. Only a few authors have investigated association between strength and on-ice performance showing contradictory results. Regardless of the lack of research in this area, authors have observed high-intensity performance during game correlating with cardiovascular loading in submaximal Yo-Yo intermittent recovery ice hockey tests, level 1 (Yo IR1-IHSUB). The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between on- and off-ice tests and match-related indicators. The second aim was to investigate differences between forwards and defensemen in general and specific physical qualities and match-related activities.\nThe male subjects were recruited from five different teams and played elite level ice hockey in Finland (n = 140). Four of teams represented Finnish Elite Ice Hockey League and one of the teams was Finnish U20 Ice Hockey League team. The measurements were executed in fall 2019. General tests included anthropometric measurements, 30-metre running speed test with 5- and 10-metre splits, countermovement jump (CMJ) and CMJ with extra loads (20, 40 and 60 kg), pro agility (5-10-5-m) off-ice test (CODRUN), Wingate test and incremental cycle ergometer test. Specific tests consisted of 30-metre skating speed test with 5- and 10-metre splits, pro agility (5-10-5-m) on-ice test (CODICE) and maximal Yo-Yo intermittent recovery ice hockey tests, level 1 (Yo IR1-IH). Bitwise corporation provided match-related data including playing time, covered distance, number of shifts, playing time per shift, average speed and maximal speed.\nNo differences were found between forwards and defensemen in any off-ice and on-ice variables (p > 0.05). However, differences were obvious in match-related indicators. Defenders spent more time on ice (16:35 vs. 14:39 min) and still, had higher playing time per shift (0:47 vs. 0:44 min) even though no significant differences in number of shifts. The forward players\u2019 maximal speed and average speed were significantly higher than that of defensemen (p > 0.001, both). Especially, speed-power tests showed significant correlations with on-ice tests. CMJ without load and with extra loads had highest association with on-ice performance, showing correlations with all on-ice power tests (r= -0.380 - -0.686, p < 0.01). VO2max correlated with distance in Yo IR1-IH (r = 0.514, p < 0.01). Only some, but mainly low correlations occurred between tests and match-related indicators. \nThe nature of the sports of ice hockey, such as tactical aspects and roles of players may affect significantly to relationships between physical qualities and match activities. Consequently, it cannot be argued that physical characteristics would not play a decisive role in the game of ice hockey. However, coaches and trainers should be aware of what tests to use to assess players\u2019 performance on-ice. Especially speed-power tests are usable tools to assess on-ice performance. However, it seems that body composition of players does not affect significantly to on-ice performance. According to this study, positional differences do not occur in physical qualities but do appear in game activities. Nelj\u00e4 joukkueista edusti Suomen p\u00e4\u00e4sarjatasoa, SM-liigaa (Liiga) ja yksi joukkueista oli U20 j\u00e4\u00e4kiekon liigajoukkue. Mittaukset toteutettiin syksyll\u00e4 2019. Yleiset testit sis\u00e4lsiv\u00e4t antropometriset mittaukset, 30 metrin juoksunopeustestin viiden ja kymmenen metrin v\u00e4liajoilla, esikevennyshypyn (CMJ) ja CMJ lis\u00e4kuormalla (20, 40 ja 60 kg), pro agility (5-10-5-m) suunnanmuutosnopeustestin (CODRUN), Wingaten anaerobisen polkupy\u00f6r\u00e4ergometritestin ja maksimaalisen hapenottokykytestin polkupy\u00f6r\u00e4ergometrilla. Spesifiset testit koostuivat 30 metrin luistelunopeustestist\u00e4 viiden ja kymmenen metrin v\u00e4liajoilla, pro agility (5-10-5-m) suunnanmuutos-nopeustestist\u00e4 j\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 (CODICE) ja Yo-Yo sukkulaluistelutestist\u00e4 (taso 1) (Yo IR1-IH). Ottelun aikaiset muuttujat saatiin Bitwise Oy:lta. Kyseiset muuttujat koostuivat seuraavista: peliaika, luisteltu matka, vaihtojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4, peliaika vaihtoa kohden, keskinopeus ja maksiminopeus. \r\nHy\u00f6kk\u00e4\u00e4jien ja puolustajien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei havaittu merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja fyysisen suorituskyvyn muuttujissa (p > 0.05). Pelin aikaisissa muuttujissa erot olivat kuitenkin selvi\u00e4. Puolustajien peliaika oli merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti hy\u00f6kk\u00e4\u00e4ji\u00e4 suurempi (16:35 vs. 14:39 min). Niin ik\u00e4\u00e4n peliaika vaihtoa kohden oli suurempi puolustajilla kuin hy\u00f6kk\u00e4\u00e4jill\u00e4 (0:47 vs. 0:44 min), mutta vaihtojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ss\u00e4 ei havaittu eroja. Hy\u00f6kk\u00e4\u00e4jien maksimi- ja keskinopeus pelin aikana olivat molemmat merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti puolustajien vastaavia suurempia (p < 0.001, molemmat). Erityisesti nopeus- ja teho-ominaisuudet korreloivat merkitsev\u00e4sti j\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4 ja j\u00e4\u00e4n ulkopuolella. CMJ ilman lis\u00e4kuormaa ja lis\u00e4kuorman kanssa oli merkitt\u00e4vimmin yhteydess\u00e4 suorituskykyyn j\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4, korreloiden kaikkien spesifisten nopeus- ja tehomuuttujien kanssa (r= -0.380 - -0.686, p < 0.01). Teoreettinen maksimaalinen hapenottokyky oli yhteydess\u00e4 edettyyn matkaan Yo IR1-IH:ssa (r = 0.514, p < 0.01). Testien ja pelin aikaisten muuttujien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 havaittiin vain yksitt\u00e4isi\u00e4, p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa matalia korrelaatioita. \r\nJ\u00e4\u00e4kiekko-ottelun luonne, kuten pelitaktiikka ja pelaajien roolit saattavat vaikuttaa merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti havaittuihin yhteyksiin fyysisten ominaisuuksien ja pelin aikaisten muuttujien v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Fyysisten ominaisuuksien roolia ei voida kuitenkaan v\u00e4heksy\u00e4 j\u00e4\u00e4kiekko-ottelun aikana. Erityisesti yleiset nopeus- ja tehotestit ovat k\u00e4ytt\u00f6kelpoisia arvioidessa pelaajien spesifist\u00e4 suorituskyky\u00e4. Sen sijaan, kehonkoostumuksen muuttujat eiv\u00e4t ole merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti yhteydess\u00e4 pelaajien suorituskykyyn. N\u00e4in ollen valmentajien on t\u00e4rke\u00e4 tiedostaa, mit\u00e4 testej\u00e4 voidaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 arvioimaan pelaajien ominaisuuksia j\u00e4\u00e4ll\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen mukaan pelipaikkakohtaisia eroja ei esiinny fyysisiss\u00e4 ominaisuuksissa, mutta erot ovat merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 pelin aikaisissa muuttujissa.
