Vieraskielisi\u00e4 opiskelijoita on silti tutkittu melko v\u00e4h\u00e4n lukion kontekstissa. Lis\u00e4ksi Suomessa on tutkittu hyvin v\u00e4h\u00e4n maahanmuuttajataustaisten oppijoiden vieraiden kielten opetusta. Siksi t\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkielma pyrkii selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, mink\u00e4laisia n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 lukion englannin opettajilla on vieraskielisist\u00e4 opiskelijoista ja kuinka n\u00e4m\u00e4 n\u00e4kemykset ovat muuttuneet heid\u00e4n uransa aikana.\n\nTutkielma toteutettiin haastattelemalla viitt\u00e4 lukion englannin kielen opettajaa eri puolelta Suomea. Haastattelut olivat puolistrukturoituja teemahaastatteluja. Haastattelut litteroitiin ja analysoitiin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 aineistopohjaista sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysia. \n\nTutkimus paljasti, ett\u00e4 opettajat arvostivat vieraskielisi\u00e4 opiskelijoita englannin opetuksessa. Opettajat kertoivat, ett\u00e4 vieraskieliset opiskelijat lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t monikulttuurisuuden hyv\u00e4ksymist\u00e4 ja kielitietoisuutta kaikissa opiskelijoissa. Opettajilla oli my\u00f6s enemm\u00e4n positiivisia n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4 vieraskielisist\u00e4 opiskelijoista kuin negatiivisia. Lis\u00e4ksi opettajat n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t vieraskieliset opiskelijat yksil\u00f6in\u00e4, jotka tarvitsevat yksil\u00f6llist\u00e4 tukea niin kuin kaikki muutkin opiskelijat. Opettajien liitt\u00e4m\u00e4t haasteet vieraskielisiin opiskelijoihin liittyiv\u00e4t enemm\u00e4n opiskelijoiden mahdollisiin kielen oppimisen vaikeuksiin eik\u00e4 niink\u00e4\u00e4n haasteisiin kielen opetuksessa. Opettajilla oli sen sijaan vaikeuksia tunnistaa, miten vieraskieliset opiskelijat verrattuna muihin opiskelijoihin ovat muuttaneet heid\u00e4n n\u00e4kemyksi\u00e4ns\u00e4 englannin opetuksesta ja oppimisesta, koska suurin osa opettajista oli opettanut vieraskielisi\u00e4 opiskelijoita koko uransa ajan. Opettajat kuitenkin sanoivat, ett\u00e4 vieraskieliset opiskelijat ovat auttaneet heit\u00e4 n\u00e4kem\u00e4\u00e4n opiskelijoiden moninaisuuden.\n\nTutkimus my\u00f6s n\u00e4ytti, ett\u00e4 osa opettajista koki ep\u00e4varmuuden tunteita vieraskielisten opiskelijoiden opettamiseen liittyen. Eniten ep\u00e4varmuutta n\u00e4ill\u00e4 opettajilla aiheuttivat haasteet vieraskielisten opiskelijoiden kanssa kommunikoinnissa sek\u00e4 vaikeudet havaita, miten vieraskielisten opiskelijoiden \u00e4idinkieli vaikuttaa kielen oppimiseen. Opettajat my\u00f6s tiedostivat, ett\u00e4 englannin oppiminen voi olla haastavaa, jos vieraskielisten opiskelijoiden t\u00e4ytyy opiskella samalla suomea vieraana kielen\u00e4, mutta opettajat kuitenkin k\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t suomea englannin opetuksessa. Tutkimustulokset siis viittaavat siihen, ett\u00e4 lukion englannin kielen opettajat voisivat hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 t\u00e4ydennyskoulutuksesta vieraskielisiin opiskelijoihin liittyen.
