Kuitenkin on vasta v\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkimusn\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 kirjoittaminen edist\u00e4isi surusta toipumista. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoitus on kuvata kirjoittamista tukena aikuisen lapsensa menett\u00e4neiden \u00e4itien surussa. \nEr\u00e4\u00e4ss\u00e4 seurakunnassa j\u00e4rjestettiin kahdeksalle \u00e4idille sururyhm\u00e4, jossa kirjoitettiin suruun liittyvist\u00e4 teemoista ja keskusteltiin kirjoitettujen tekstien pohjalta. Aineisto koottiin t\u00e4st\u00e4 ryhm\u00e4st\u00e4 kirjoittamista pohtivien kirjoitelmien ja haastattelujen sek\u00e4 havaintomuistiinpanojen avulla. Aineisto analysoitiin aineistol\u00e4ht\u00f6isesti soveltaen sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi\u00e4. \nKirjoittaminen oli \u00e4ideille joko sujuvaa, vaikeaa tai mahdotonta. Kirjoittamisen aikana koettiin ahdistusta ja usein itkettiin. Itku koettiin mielt\u00e4 puhdistavaksi. Kirjoittaminen n\u00e4htiin puhumista rehellisemp\u00e4n\u00e4, syvemp\u00e4n\u00e4, luontevampana ja luotettavampana. Kirjoittamisen yksityisyytt\u00e4 verrattuna puhumisen sosiaalisuuteen pidettiin hyv\u00e4n\u00e4 asiana. Valmiit kirjoitetut dokumentit n\u00e4htiin t\u00e4rkein\u00e4. Toisaalta kirjoittaminen n\u00e4htiin liian yksisuuntaisena verrattuna puhumiseen. Jotkut \u00e4idit n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t kirjoittamisen parhaana tapana k\u00e4sitell\u00e4 surua ja jotkut jonkin muun surun k\u00e4sittelemisen tavan. Kokemukset kirjoittamisesta kokonaisuudessaan olivat positiivisia. Kirjoittamisesta ei kerrottu olleen haittaa. Kirjoittaminen vastasi ennen kirjoittamista syntyneisiin tarpeisiin: lapsen muistelemisen, yksin\u00e4isyyden lievitt\u00e4misen ja lapsen kuoleman syiden ja tarkoituksen pohtimisen tarpeisiin sek\u00e4 hengellisiin tarpeisiin. Kirjoittamalla tehtiin hyvinvointia edist\u00e4vi\u00e4 tekoja: muisteltiin lasta ja pidettiin h\u00e4net l\u00e4hell\u00e4, selvitettiin ajatuksia, rakennettiin omasta ja lapsen el\u00e4m\u00e4st\u00e4 narratiiveja ja syy-seuraussuhteita, ilmaistiin ja ulkoistettiin tunteita, k\u00e4siteltiin surua pienemmiss\u00e4 osissa, etsittiin yhteytt\u00e4 omaan itseen, lapseen tai Jumalaan sek\u00e4 pohdittiin eksistentiaalisia kysymyksi\u00e4. Kirjoittamisella oli seurauksia: se rohkaisi toimimaan sosiaalisissa tilanteissa, tuotti suotuisia muutoksia tunteisiin, v\u00e4hensi ruminaatiota, lievitti surua, lis\u00e4si ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 itse\u00e4 ja muita kohtaan sek\u00e4 synnytti uusia oivalluksia lapsesta, el\u00e4m\u00e4st\u00e4, surusta ja onnesta. \nKirjoittaminen on lempe\u00e4 ja ainakin joissakin tilanteissa toimiva keino k\u00e4sitell\u00e4 suruun liittyvi\u00e4 asioita. Kirjoittamista voidaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 tukimuotona surussa, my\u00f6s niiden surevien kohdalla, joille kirjoittaminen ei ole ennalta tuttu tapa k\u00e4sitell\u00e4 asioita.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "Writing about thoughts and emotions has been found to have advantageous effects on health and functioning. However, so far there is only little evidence on writing as a means to promote recovery from grief. The purpose of this study is to describe writing as support in grief of mothers who have lost their adult child. \nIn a certain parish, a grief support group for eight mothers was organized. In the group, they wrote about themes related to grief and discussed on the basis of the written texts. The material was collected from this group via essays and interviews reflecting writing, and observation notes. The material was analyzed inductively by applying content analysis. \nFor the mothers, writing was either smooth, difficult or impossible. During writing, anxiety was felt and often crying occurred. Crying was considered mind cleansing. Writing was seen as more honest, deeper, more natural and more reliable than talking. The privacy of writing compared to sociality of talking was considered a good thing. The complete written documents were considered important. On the other hand, compared to talking writing was considered to be too one-way. Some mothers considered writing to be the best way to handle grief and some considered that some other way to handle grief is the best. The overall experiences on writing were positive. Writing was not told to have caused any harm. By writing, needs aroused before writing were addressed. These needs were as follows: to reminisce the child, to ease loneliness, to ponder the causes and purpose of the death of the child, and religious needs. By writing, deeds that promote wellbeing were performed: the child was reminisced and kept near, thoughts were clarified, narratives and causations on the life of oneself and of the child were constructed, feelings were expressed and let out the self, grief was handled in smaller parts, connection to oneself, to the child or to God was searched, and existential questions were pondered. Writing had consequences: It encouraged to act in social conditions, produces advantageous changes in emotions, reduced rumination, relieved grief, increased understanding on oneself and others, and developed new insights on the child, life, grief, and happiness. \nWriting is a gentle and at least in some circumstances a functional means to handle things related to grief.
