Lis\u00e4ksi tutkin, miksi kuorolaiset ovat liittyneet gaykuoroon, mitk\u00e4 asiat he kokevat gaykuorossa t\u00e4rke\u00e4ksi ja mink\u00e4lainen yhteys gaykuoron yhteis\u00f6ll\u00e4 on kuorolaisten homouden identiteettiin. \n\nTutkimus on laadullinen tapaustutkimus, jossa on haastateltu puolistrukturoidun teemahaastattelun avulla viitt\u00e4 (5) Out \u2019n loud -kuorossa laulavaa henkil\u00f6\u00e4. Haastatteluihin osallistuneet kuorolaiset on valittu ennakkolomakkeen avulla, jonka on t\u00e4ytt\u00e4nyt kaikki gaykuoron laulajat. \n\nTutkimustulosteni perusteella gaykuoroon liityt\u00e4\u00e4n sek\u00e4 musiikillisten ett\u00e4 sosiaalisten syiden takia. Haastatteluissa k\u00e4vi ilmi, ett\u00e4 Out \u2019n loud -kuorossa voi kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 musiikillista osaamista ja toteuttaa omaa ilmaisullista puoltaan. N\u00e4iden motiivien lis\u00e4ksi, haastateltavat kertoivat sosiaalisten kontaktien luomisen olevan merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 syy liitty\u00e4 Out \u2019n loudiin. \n\nLaulajille on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 he voivat laulaa yhteis\u00f6ss\u00e4, jossa voi olla vapaasti oma itsens\u00e4 eik\u00e4 omaa seksuaalista suuntautumista tarvitse piilotella. Kuorossa tutustutaan ihmisiin, joihin ei v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 muuten tutustuttaisi ja luodaan uusia, pitk\u00e4kestoisia suhteita. Kuoroyhteis\u00f6ss\u00e4 muodostuneet yst\u00e4vyyssuhteet ulottuvat usein my\u00f6s kuoron ulkopuolelle. Huumori toimii yhten\u00e4 selke\u00e4n\u00e4 keinona, jolla voidaan k\u00e4sitell\u00e4 homona olemista. Out \u2019n loudista l\u00f6ytyy yhteiskunnallinen puoli, joka n\u00e4kyy laulajien mielest\u00e4 erityisesti siin\u00e4, ett\u00e4 kuoro mahdollistaa uudenlaisen v\u00e4yl\u00e4n tavata homomiehi\u00e4. Kuoron toiminnan kautta voidaan my\u00f6s edist\u00e4\u00e4 tasa-arvoa ja tuoda homokulttuuria tutuksi yleis\u00f6lle. Lauluohjelmiston monipuolisuus ja esiintymisten ilmaisullisuus koettiin kuoron vahvuutena. \n\nTutkimustulosten perusteella voidaan sanoa, ett\u00e4 gaykuoron yhteis\u00f6ll\u00e4 ja yksil\u00f6n homouden identiteetill\u00e4 on yhteys. Out \u2019n loudissa voi ilmaista omaa seksuaalista suuntautumistaan vapaammin kuin muissa kuoroyhteis\u00f6iss\u00e4, joka osoittaa sen, ett\u00e4 kuorolaisten keskuudessa on luottamusta ja samoja arvoja. Out \u2019n loud on l\u00f6yt\u00e4nyt oman kuulijakuntansa, ja n\u00e4in ollen yleis\u00f6n positiivisella vastaanotolla on my\u00f6s positiivinen merkityksens\u00e4 kuorolaisen omakuvaan ja identiteettiin.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The aim in this study was to explore the meaning and significance of participating in a choir as a hobby and particularly the role that singing in a gay men\u2019s choir plays for a man. This thesis explores three specific research questions: What are the reasons for participating in this type of choir? What aspects do these singers find significant in this type of choir? Finally, what role does a gay choir community play in the homosexual identity formation?\n\nThis was a qualitative case study, where semi-structured, theme based interviews were held for pre-selected group of five participants from the gay choir \u2018Out \u2018n loud\u2019. The selection was made using an open-ended questionnaire that was given to all the choir members. \n\nThe results show that the main motivation to join the choir are the singing and social aspects. Interview data also suggest that in \u2018Out \u2018n loud\u2019 people can improve their musical skills, and the choir gives a platform to fulfil one\u2019s creative side. Amongst these motives, interviewees emphasized the importance of networking and creating new social connections with other gay men. \n\nThe singers highlighted the importance of being able to sing in group where they can freely be themselves and don\u2019t have to hide their sexuality. In this choir new relationships were made that probably would not have been made in other circumstances. Some friendships continued outside the rehearsal environment and are now long lasting. Humour seems to be a way to deal with topics related to homosexuality, for example stereotypes towards gay men or other social norms. There are also social-political aspects in \u2018Out \u2018n loud\u2019. The choir enables a new way for men to meet and socialize with other gay men and also provides a way to promote equality. Solidarity can be increased through performances where the choir shares more knowledge about the gay culture. The diverse musical repertoire and expressional performing was seen as beneficial for both the performers and the audiences. \n\nThe results suggest that a gay men\u2019s choir community plays a role in sexual identity formation. In \u2018Out \u2018n loud\u2019, one can express his sexuality more freely than in other choir communities.
