Nuorten asenteet ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00e4 kohtaan ovat my\u00f6nteisi\u00e4, mutta asenteet eiv\u00e4t heijastu suoraan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymiseen. Ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6kasvatuksen tavoitteena on mahdollistaa jokaiselle ihmiselle kest\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n tarvittavien tietojen, taitojen ja asenteiden omaksuminen. Kest\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4ntapaan kuuluu yksil\u00f6tason toiminta, kuten kulutustottumukset, sek\u00e4 yhteiskunnallinen osallistuminen ja vaikuttaminen. Kest\u00e4v\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavan opetuksen tulisi sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 oman l\u00e4hiymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n asioihin vaikuttamisen harjoittelemista omassa oppilaitoksessa sek\u00e4 yhteisty\u00f6ss\u00e4 muiden yhteiskunnan toimijoiden kanssa. Osallistuminen yhteiseen vaikuttamiseen tarjoaa oppijalle osallisuuden ja voimaantumisen kokemuksia, mink\u00e4 puolestaan katsotaan johtavan ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6my\u00f6nteisen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisen syntyyn. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin kest\u00e4v\u00e4 kehitys -aiheisen osallisuusprojektin vaikutuksia 8.-luokkalaisten oppilaiden asenteisiin ja ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00e4 koskevaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymiseen. Tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 motivoiko projekti oppilaita ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6my\u00f6nteiseen toimintaan ja auttaako se siten pienent\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n asenteiden ja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisen v\u00e4list\u00e4 kuilua. Oppilaat suunnittelivat ja toteuttivat koulullaan l\u00e4hiruokatapahtuman, jota ennen ja j\u00e4lkeen heid\u00e4n asenteitaan ja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymist\u00e4\u00e4n mitattiin kirjallisella kyselyll\u00e4. Tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6asenteiden lis\u00e4ksi my\u00f6s nuorten k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyminen oli ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6yst\u00e4v\u00e4llist\u00e4, eik\u00e4 asenteiden ja k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisen v\u00e4linen kuilu ollut suuri. Oppilaiden ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyminen keskittyi pitk\u00e4lti kulutukseen, ja yhteiskunnallinen vaikuttaminen oli v\u00e4h\u00e4ist\u00e4. Yksitt\u00e4inen lyhytaikainen projektity\u00f6 ei vaikuttanut oppilaiden k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymiseen kokonaisvaltaisesti, vaan vaikutukset kohdistuivat projektity\u00f6n teemaan. Tutkimus antaa tukea ajatukselle, jonka mukaan kest\u00e4v\u00e4n el\u00e4m\u00e4ntavan harjoittelemisen tulee olla pitk\u00e4j\u00e4nteist\u00e4 ja sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 palautetta kuulluksi tulemisesta sek\u00e4 onnistumisen kokemuksia. Oppilaiden tiet\u00e4mys omista keinoista vaikuttaa ja siit\u00e4, millaiset kulutusvalinnat ovat ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6yst\u00e4v\u00e4llisi\u00e4, osoittautuivat heikoiksi. Ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6kasvatukseen tulisi sis\u00e4llytt\u00e4\u00e4 my\u00f6s konkreettista neuvontaa ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6my\u00f6nteisist\u00e4 kulutusvalinnoista. Studies have shown that attitudes of the youth are environmentally friendly. However, there is a gap between the attitudes and the pro-environmental behaviour. The goal of environmental education is to offer all people the knowledge, abilities and attitudes to act environmentally. A sustainable way of life requires both private level actions like reducing consumption and involvement in society level actions. Environmental education should include practising action strategies in children\u2019s own schools and also interacting with other sectors of society. Participation offers the pupil feelings of being included and empowered which in turn lead to pro-environmental behaviour. This study focused on the impacts of sustainable development project on environmental attitudes and behaviour of 8th grade pupils. The goal was to find out whether the project motivates pupils to act environmentally and helps to narrow the gap between attitudes and behaviour. The pupils planned a local food event in their own school and their attitudes and behaviour were measured before and after the project. The study showed that in addition to the environmental attitudes the behaviour of pupils is also pro-environmental, and hence the gap between attitudes and behaviour is not wide. The pupils\u2019 pro-environmental behaviour was mainly focused on the consumption and the involvement in society level was not common. Single brief project did not change pupils\u2019 behaviour comprehensively but only concerning the theme of the project. The study supports the idea that environmental education should be persistent and include feedback of being heard and experiences of succeeding. The pupils\u2019 knowledge on how to act environmentally and consume sustainably turned out to be inadequate. Hence, environmental education should also include concrete advices on pro-environmental choices of consumption.
