Positiivinen psykologia tutkimusalana tutkii my\u00f6nteisi\u00e4 tunteita, joilla on mm. todettu olevan yhteys hyvinvointiin ja henkil\u00f6kohtaiseen kasvuun, mutta niit\u00e4 ei ole juuri tutkittu oppimisen kontekstissa omana tutkimuskohteenaan. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus tarkastelee iloon tai mielihyv\u00e4\u00e4n rinnastettavissa olevaa tunnetta (engl. enjoyment) kielenopiskelussa, jonka on havaittu vaihtelevan esimerkiksi i\u00e4n, sukupuolen, koulumenestyksen tai opiskeltujen kielten m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n mukaan. Tutkimus koostui kahdesta osasta: ensimm\u00e4inen osa tutki monivalintakyselyn avulla tilastollisin menetelmin, kokevatko suomalaiset yl\u00e4koululaiset ja lukiolaiset iloa englanninopinnoissaan ja millaiset oppilaiden taustatekij\u00e4t siihen vaikuttavat. Toinen osa tutki kyselyn avokysymysten avulla, mitk\u00e4 asiat oppilaiden mukaan lis\u00e4siv\u00e4t ja v\u00e4hensiv\u00e4t iloa englannintunneilla t\u00e4hd\u00e4ten tutkimusinstrumentin parantamiseen. M\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisen analyysin tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 oppilaat kokevat merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti iloa englannin opinnoissaan ja ett\u00e4 ilon m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4n vaikuttavat positiivisesti yl\u00e4koulussa koettu hyv\u00e4 ryhm\u00e4henki sek\u00e4 yleisesti englannin opinnoissa menestyminen. Iloa tuottavat tekij\u00e4t jaoteltiin sosiaalisiin ja henkil\u00f6kohtaisiin. Tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 sosiaalisten tekij\u00f6iden (esim. ryhm\u00e4hengen) koettiin tuottavan enemm\u00e4n iloa verrattuna henkil\u00f6kohtaisiin tekij\u00f6ihin (esim. ylpeys omista saavutuksista). Eniten iloa kokeneilla oppilailla kuitenkin sek\u00e4 sosiaaliset ett\u00e4 henkil\u00f6kohtaiset tekij\u00e4t tuottivat iloa. Laadullisen analyysin tulokset loivat tarkempaa ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 siit\u00e4, mik\u00e4 oppilaiden mielest\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4 iloa englannintunneilla. Merkitt\u00e4vimpi\u00e4 tekij\u00f6it\u00e4 olivat opettajan positiivinen palaute, kommunikointi toisten kanssa englanniksi, asioiden oppiminen ja osaaminen, mahdollisuus itseilmaisuun sek\u00e4 tietyt teht\u00e4v\u00e4tyypit ja monipuoliset opetusmetodit. Iloa v\u00e4hent\u00e4vist\u00e4 tekij\u00f6ist\u00e4 puolestaan merkitt\u00e4vin oli tietyt teht\u00e4v\u00e4tyypit, joista oppilaat eiv\u00e4t pit\u00e4neet kokiessaan ne tylsiksi tai liian hankaliksi tai helpoiksi. Tutkimukseni tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 opettaja pystyy vaikuttamaan oppilaiden kokemukseen englannintunneista ja siten lis\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n koettua iloa sek\u00e4 osaltaan edist\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n heid\u00e4n hyvinvointiaan.
