Tutkimusaihe on t\u00e4rke\u00e4, koska opettajan\r\nvaikutus koulun toimintaan ja kehitt\u00e4miseen sek\u00e4 lasten oppimiseen on merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi useat\r\nkansainv\u00e4liset vertailututkimukset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 oppimisessa on merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 haasteita tutkimuksen\r\nkohteena olevassa englantilaisessa kouluj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4ss\u00e4. On merkityksellist\u00e4 tutkia, miten opettaja kokee\r\nvoivansa vaikuttaa ty\u00f6h\u00f6ns\u00e4 ja ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 kehittymiseen t\u00e4ss\u00e4 kontekstissa, jotta voisimme lis\u00e4t\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4\r\nkoulutuksen ja oppimisen kehitt\u00e4mishaasteista.\r\nTutkimuksessa opettajan kehittyminen n\u00e4hd\u00e4\u00e4n sek\u00e4 ulkoisena sosiaalistumisprosessina ett\u00e4\r\nyksil\u00f6llisen\u00e4 oppimisprosessina. Avoimen el\u00e4m\u00e4kerrallisen haastattelun avulla on pyritty tavoittamaan\r\nopettajien oma n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma siihen, miten he suhtautuvat muutokseen ja ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 kehittymiseen ja mitk\u00e4\r\ntekij\u00e4t he n\u00e4kev\u00e4t keskeisin\u00e4 omassa kehittymisprosessissaan.\r\nEl\u00e4m\u00e4kerroissa nousi esille useita ty\u00f6n realiteetteja, jotka opettajat kokivat merkityksellisin\u00e4\r\nkehittymisen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Ulkoiset, yhteiskunnasta ja kouluj\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4st\u00e4 nousevat paineet, kuten\r\nsitova valtakunnallinen opetussuunnitelma, ty\u00f6n arviointij\u00e4rjestelm\u00e4t, valtakunnalliset testit ja tarkasti\r\nvaaditut tuntisuunnitelmat aiheuttavat stressi\u00e4, v\u00e4symyst\u00e4, turhautuneisuutta ja kohtuutonta ty\u00f6kuormaa,\r\nmik\u00e4 opettajien mukaan heikent\u00e4\u00e4 luovuutta ja itsen\u00e4isyytt\u00e4 ja vaikuttaa n\u00e4in haitallisesti opettajana\r\nkehittymiseen. My\u00f6s koulun sis\u00e4iset ihmissuhteet, kuten suhde rehtoriin ja kollegoihin n\u00e4htiin joko\r\nrajoittavana tai kannustavana. Kokonaisuutena opettajat kokivat yhteisty\u00f6n yhdeksi t\u00e4rkeimmist\u00e4 asioista\r\nkehittymisess\u00e4\u00e4n. Opettajat n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t kehittymisen olevan vahvasti sidoksissa oman persoonallisuuden\r\nkehittymiseen. Aktiivinen el\u00e4m\u00e4 ja avoin suhtautuminen asioihin, vahva arvomaailma sek\u00e4 omasta\r\nel\u00e4m\u00e4st\u00e4 ja itsest\u00e4 huolehtiminen nousivat merkitt\u00e4viksi kehitt\u00e4mist\u00e4 edist\u00e4viksi tekij\u00f6iksi.
