Klusterointiprotokollan suoritus tapahtuu kierroksittain sisältäen yleensä seuraavat neljä vaihetta: pääsolmun valinta, klusterin muodostus, datan kokoaminen ja tiedonsiirto. Klusterointiprotokollan valinta voi olla haastavaa, sillä valintaan vaikuttaa monet tekijät. Klusterointiprotokollalle asetetut tavoitteet vaihtelevat ja ne määräytyvät usein sovelluksen vaatimusten mukaan. Myös pääsolmun ominaisuudet voivat vaihdella ja pääsolmun valinta voidaan tehdä todennäköisyyteen perustuen, deterministisesti tai ennalta määräten. Klusterin muodostuksessa täytyy huomioida mm. klustereiden lukumäärä, koko ja tiheys sekä klustereiden sisäinen topologia. Lisäksi datan kokoamispiste täytyy sijoittaa oikein ja arvioida aiheuttaako datan kokoamisesta johtuva viive ongelmia. Myös klusterin sisäinen ja klustereiden välinen tiedonsiirto täytyy huomioida klusterointiprotokollan valinnassa. Reititystä käsitellään erikseen, koska tiedonsiirto on keskeinen osa klusterointiprotokollan II toimintaa. Työssä kerrotaan myös melusta ja melun mittauksesta langattomassa anturiverkossa, esitellään kivimurskaimen melua mittaava langaton anturiverkko sekä vertaillaan MH-LEACH ja DSBCA -klusterointiprotokollan toimintaa kyseisessä verkossa. Wireless sensor networks are suitable for many different applications, however, the sensor nodes scarce resources set their own challenges. The energy of sensor nodes should be saved to prolong lifetime of the network. Energy consumption can be reduced by dividing the sensor nodes into groups, clusters. Clustering protocols are executed in rounds, one round includes usually four steps: cluster head selection, cluster formation, data aggregation and data transfer. The selection of the clustering protocol can be challenging, due to many factors that influence the choice of the right protocol. Objectives of the clustering protocols can vary and often depend on the application requirements. Cluster head properties can also vary a lot and the cluster head can be selected probability based, deterministic or preset. In the cluster formation phase for instance, you should consider the number of clusters, the size and density as well as the internal topology of the clusters. In addition, the data aggregation point must be positioned correctly and evaluate the effects that aggregation delay may cause. Also intra-cluster and inter-cluster communication must be taken into account when choosing the clustering protocol. Routing is discussed in own chapter in this study, because communication is a key part of the clustering protocol activities. This study also discusses about the noise and noise monitoring in the wireless sensor networks. It also presents the wireless sensor network that monitors noise of the stone crusher, as well as compares operation of MHLEACH and DSBCA clustering protocols in that network.
