Pohja t\u00e4lle taidolle muodostuu toisen asteen koulutuksessa, eli useimmiten lukiossa. Toisen kielen \u2013 useimmiten siis englannin \u2013 opetussuunnitelman nelj\u00e4s kurssi keskittyy lukustrategioiden opettamiseen. Lukustrategioita opetetaan, koska niill\u00e4 on tutkitusti merkityst\u00e4 etenkin haastavissa toisen kielen teksteiss\u00e4, joita oppilaat tulevat kohtaamaan. \u201dStrategia\u201d ymm\u00e4rret\u00e4\u00e4n usein tietoiseksi prosessiksi, jossa lukija on tietoinen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ess\u00e4\u00e4n strategiaa. Tietoisuuden ollessa mukana puhutaan metakognitiivisista lukustrategioista. N\u00e4iden strategioiden k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00f6n on luotu kysely, jota t\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus soveltaa.\r\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa kysely teetettiin keskisuomalaisen lukion oppilailla. Oppilaat edustivat eri ik\u00e4ryhmi\u00e4: kolmatta kurssia k\u00e4yvi\u00e4 (N=19) ja kuudetta kurssia k\u00e4yvi\u00e4 (N=22). Oppilaat vastasivat kyselyyn, jossa he arvioivat omien metakognitiivisten lukustrategioidensa k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4n lis\u00e4ksi kysyttiin ik\u00e4\u00e4, sukupuolta, \u00e4idinkielt\u00e4, p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4ist\u00e4 lukemisen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 ja mahdollisia jatko-opintohaaveita. Tarkoituksena oli analysoida oppilaiden suosimia strategioita ja tutkia esiintyyk\u00f6 kahden ryhm\u00e4n v\u00e4lill\u00e4 eroja. My\u00f6s jatko-opintohaaveiden oletettiin vaikuttavan, sill\u00e4 huonommin lukevat oppilaat tuskin haluavat jatkaa opintojaan. Sukupuoli otettiin mukaan analyysiin, sill\u00e4 Suomessa sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 on havaittu merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 eroja lukutaidon ja lukutottumusten osalta.\r\nKahden eri ryhm\u00e4n v\u00e4lill\u00e4 ei havaittu merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 eroa, mik\u00e4 voi viitata siihen, ett\u00e4 lukustrategioita opetetaan tasaisesti lukion aikana. Motivaatiossa jatko-opintoihin ei kyetty l\u00f6yt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n eroja, sill\u00e4 kaikki oppilaat pyrkiv\u00e4t jatkamaan opintojaan. Sukupuolten v\u00e4lill\u00e4 havaittiin eroja: naispuoliset oppilaat omasivat suuremman tietoisuuden lukustrategioista, mutta ero tietoisuudessa ei ollut tutkimuksen pohjalta niin suuri, kuin se oli 15-vuotiaiden Pisa-testeiss\u00e4.
