Yksi sis\u00e4vesien vedenlaatumallinnuksen kehityssuunta on\r\nollut vesiekologisten mallien linkitt\u00e4minen virtausmalleihin. BFM-malli on useissa\r\ntutkimuksissa linkitetty 3D-virtausmalleihin. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa testattiin BFM-mallin\r\nsoveltuvuutta j\u00e4rven kasviplanktonin biomassan kehityksen sek\u00e4 a-klorofyllipitoisuuden\r\nkuvaamiseen. Sovellus toteutettiin 0-dimensioisena laatikkomallina Pohjois-P\u00e4ij\u00e4nteell\u00e4.\r\nMalli kalibroitiin vuodelle 2010 ja validointiin k\u00e4ytettiin vuosia 2011, 2012 ja 1977.\r\nHerkkyysanalyyseissa tutkittiin kalibroituja parametreja ja a-klorofyllisynteesej\u00e4 sek\u00e4\r\nkasviplanktonin biomassaan eniten vaikuttavia tekij\u00f6it\u00e4. One of the recent trends in water quality\r\nmodelling is linking ecological models to hydrodynamic models to get spatial descriptions\r\nfor predictions. In a number of studies, BFM is linked to 3D-hydrodynamic models for\r\nspatial description. In this study BFM applicability for phytoplankton biomass dynamics\r\nand chlorophyll a in a lake environment was tested as a box model in Northern Lake\r\nP\u00e4ij\u00e4nne. Model calibration was performed for the year 2010 and validation for years\r\n2011, 2012 and 1977. Sensitivity analysis was conducted to the calibrated parameters and\r\nchlorophyll a synthesis and also to find most influential input variables to phytoplankton\r\nbiomass. After calibration the time period model performed well at average condition\r\nlevels of phytoplankton variables (diatoms, nanoflagellates and other phytoplankton) and\r\nchlorophyll a, but Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency was negative. In eutrophic conditions in 1977,\r\nthe model overestimated spring and summer phytoplankton biomasses. This may be due to\r\nsimplified physical and insufficient nutrients description used in the model and\r\nphytoplankton parametrization for marine environment. The pulp and paper industry\u2019s\r\nwastewater toxic compounds inhibition is something that model ignored. Harmful\r\nsubstances are known to limit phytoplankton biomass in the 1970s, and it may be a major\r\ncause of the observed anomaly. The model\u2019s phytoplankton description is sensitive to\r\nnutrient concentrations and illumination.
