Vaikka vieraalla kielell\u00e4 lukeminen eroaa merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti \u00e4idinkielell\u00e4 lukemisesta ja sit\u00e4 tulisi tarkastella ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6\u00f6ns\u00e4 sidottuna ilmi\u00f6n\u00e4, suuri osa lukutaidon tutkimuksesta liittyy nimenomaan \u00e4idinkielell\u00e4 lukemisen tutkimukseen.\r\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa arvioidaan lukion viimeisen kurssin oppimateriaaleja vieraan kielen opetuksen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. P\u00e4\u00e4asiallinen tutkimuskysymys on millaisia luetunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen harjoituksia oppikirjat tarjoavat lukutaidon harjoittamiseksi. Tutkielmassa analysoitiin kahta lukion oppikirjaa, In touch 6 (Davies ym. 2003) ja Open road 6 (Karapalo ym. 2010). Opetusmateriaali analyysin kohteena on relevantti, sill\u00e4 aiemmat Suomessa tehdyt tutkimukset aiheesta ovat osoittaneet, ett\u00e4 oppimateriaalien rooli vieraiden kielten opetuksessa on merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4. K\u00e4ytetty tutkimusote oli p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa deduktiivinen. Saatuja tuloksia, jotka esitettiin my\u00f6s taulukoina, vertailtiin lukion opetussuunnitelman tavoitteisiin sek\u00e4 ylioppilaskokeen vieraiden kielten kokeissa k\u00e4ytett\u00e4viin arviointikriteereihin.\r\nHarjoitukset olivat molemmissa oppikirjoissa hyvin samankaltaisia ja keskittyiv\u00e4t usein pinnallisen luetunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen tukemiseen. Ylioppilaskokeessa mitattavia taitoja harjoitettiin paljon, mutta joitain opetussuunnitelman tavoitteita ei aina huomioitu.Tuloksia tarkasteltaessa tulee huomioida se, ett\u00e4 tutkimusaineisto koostui vain kahdesta oppikirjasta sek\u00e4 se, ett\u00e4 laadullinen tutkimus pohjautuu aina tutkijan tulkintaan aineistosta. Tutkimuksessa esitettiin yksi tapa arvioida luetun ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen harjoituksia vieraankielen opetuksen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta.
