Jatkuvan kehityksen mukanaan tuomat muutokset viestinn\u00e4ss\u00e4 ja opetuksessakin asettavat haasteita kouluille. Samalla opettajilta odotetaan vastausta ajan haasteisiin. Mediakasvatus sek\u00e4 tieto- ja viestint\u00e4tekniikka ovat tulleet pienin askelin osaksi koulun arkea viime vuosikymmenien aikana. Paljon ty\u00f6t\u00e4 on tekem\u00e4tt\u00e4, jotta mediakasvatus saa kouluissa ja\r\ntulevien opettajien koulutuksessa, aseman, joka sille nykykulttuurissa kuuluu.\r\n\r\nPerusopetuksen opetussuunnitelman perusteissa (2004) mediakasvatus huomioidaan muutamissa\r\noppiaineissa ja aihekokonaisuuksissa. Valtioneuvosto on antanut 28.6.2012 asetuksen perusopetuslaissa tarkoitetun opetuksen tavoitteista ja perusopetuksen tuntijaosta, jonka pohjalta on k\u00e4ynnistynyt uuden opetussuunnitelman perusteiden valmistelu. Kehitteill\u00e4 olevan opetussuunnitelmauudistuksen my\u00f6t\u00e4 monilukutaidon, mediakasvatuksen ja tieto- ja viestint\u00e4teknologian opetusk\u00e4yt\u00f6n lis\u00e4\u00e4miseen kouluissa ollaan kiinnitt\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 huomiota; ne ollaan liitt\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4 kiinte\u00e4ksi osaksi kouluty\u00f6t\u00e4 ja opetusta. (OPH 14.11.2012).\r\n\r\nPro gradu-tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 millaisia k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 ja k\u00e4ytt\u00f6kokemuksia viidesluokkalaisilla lapsilla on digitaalisista medioista. Samalla kartoitan lasten uosimia\r\nmedial\u00e4hteit\u00e4 ja -sis\u00e4lt\u00f6j\u00e4, sek\u00e4 ajank\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4. Tarkastelen my\u00f6s vanhempien k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 ja\r\ntietoisuutta lastensa medioiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4.\r\n\r\nTutkielmani on laadullinen tutkimus ja otteeltaan fenomenografinen. Teoreettinen viitekehys\r\nrakentuu aihepiiriin liittyvien olennaisista k\u00e4sitteist\u00e4, opetussuunnitelmakatsauksesta sek\u00e4 aiempien tutkimusten esittelyst\u00e4. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu kyselyist\u00e4 lapsille (75 vastaajaa) ja vanhempainkyselyst\u00e4 (25 vastaajaa).\r\n\r\nTutkimustulosten mukaan viidesluokkalaisilla on vahva p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4inen side medial\u00e4hteiden\r\nja -sis\u00e4lt\u00f6jen kanssa, joiden l\u00e4sn\u00e4olo on diginatiiveille arkip\u00e4iv\u00e4inen itsest\u00e4\u00e4nselvyys.\r\nLasten k\u00e4sitykset tiivistyv\u00e4t medial\u00e4hteet, mediasis\u00e4ll\u00f6t, tietotulva, kriittinen suhtautuminen\r\nja turvallisuus -teemojen ymp\u00e4rille. Lasten medioihin k\u00e4ytt\u00e4m\u00e4 aika mukailee aiempien\r\ntutkimusten tuloksia sek\u00e4 annettuja suosituksia. Vanhemmat ovat hyvin selvill\u00e4 lastensa\r\nmediank\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 kaikin puolin. He n\u00e4kev\u00e4t lastensa tavoin erilaisten medioiden kuuluvan\r\nlasten arkeen, joskin mediank\u00e4yt\u00f6n pelis\u00e4\u00e4nn\u00f6ist\u00e4 ja valvonnasta tulee sopia yhdess\u00e4\r\nlasten kanssa. The changes in communications and education brought about by\r\nconstant development set challenges for schools, while answers to the challenges of the\r\ntimes are sought from teachers. Slowly during the past few centuries, media education\r\nand ICT have become part of the everyday at schools. Much remains to be done for media\r\neducation to take a role in schools and teacher education similar to that it occupies in\r\nmodern culture.\r\n\r\nIn the national core curriculum for basic education (2004), media education is given some\r\nattention in a number of subjects and cross-curricular themes. The Government has on 28\r\nJune 2012 issued a decree on the national objectives and distribution of teaching hours in\r\nbasic education, based on which preliminary work on the new national core curriculum\r\nhas been launched. With the ongoing curriculum development, more focus will be placed\r\non developing multi-literacy, media education and the use of information and communication\r\ntechnologies in teaching; they will be made an integral part of school work and\r\nteaching (National Board of Education, 14 November 2012).\r\n\r\nMy pro gradu thesis discusses fifth-graders' notions and use experiences of digital\r\nmedia. I also chart media sources and contents popular among children, and their time\r\nuse. I as well take a look at how parents feel about, and are aware of, their children\r\nusing these media.\r\n\r\nMy thesis is qualitative and phenomenographic in nature. The theoretical framework\r\nconsists of some relevant key concepts, a curriculum review, and presentation of earlier\r\nstudies. The research material comprises surveys for children (75 respondents)\r\nand a parent survey (25 respondents).\r\n\r\nThe research results suggest that fifth-graders have a strong daily bond with media\r\nsources and contents. For digital natives, their existence is a fact of the everyday.\r\nChildren's concepts focus around the themes of media sources, media contents, information\r\noverflow, critical attitude, and safety. The time children spend on these\r\nmedia is concurrent with previous studies and recommendations given. Parents are\r\nwell aware of all aspects of how their children use media. Like their children, they\r\nalso consider that a range of media are part of the everyday life of children, though\r\nthe rules of how media can be used and this use monitored should be set together with\r\nchildren.
