Tutkielman\nkeskeisin\u00e4 tavoitteina oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, mit\u00e4 aktiiviset videopelit ovat ja\novatko niiden tarjoamat hy\u00f6tyvaikutukset vertailukelpoisia perinteisten liikuntamuotojen\nkanssa. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkittiin, miten liikuntarajoitteiset k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4ryhm\u00e4t\notetaan huomioon heille suunnatuissa aktiivisissa videopeleiss\u00e4 ja voivatko\npelit toimia heid\u00e4n kohdallaan jopa perinteisten liikuntamuotojen korvaajina.\nAktiiviset videopelit viittaavat videopeliteknologiaan, joka perustuu\npelaajan liikkeeseen p\u00e4\u00e4asiallisena vuorovaikutuskeinona pelaajan ja pelin\nv\u00e4lill\u00e4. Aktiivinen videopelaaminen on videopelien k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 my\u00f6s liikuntan\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta\nja yksi sen t\u00e4rkeimmist\u00e4 tavoitteista on fyysisen hy\u00f6dyn tarjoaminen\npelaajalle. Aktiivisten videopelien suosio on kasvanut huomattavasti uuden\nsukupolven pelikonsolien my\u00f6t\u00e4. Nykyteknologia mahdollistaa yh\u00e4 monimuotoisempien\nliikuntaharjoitusten suorittamisen aktiivisilla videopeleill\u00e4.\nTutkimuksen alussa m\u00e4\u00e4riteltiin aktiivisten videopelien k\u00e4sitett\u00e4, selvitettiin\nniiden taustaa ja tavoitteita sek\u00e4 tutkittiin niiden erilaisia muotoja. T\u00e4m\u00e4n\nj\u00e4lkeen tutkittiin nelj\u00e4\u00e4 liikuntarajoitteista k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4ryhm\u00e4\u00e4, joille suunnitellaan\nerityisvalmisteisia aktiivisia videopelej\u00e4. Lopuksi tutkittiin aktiivisten videopelien\ntarjoamia hy\u00f6tyj\u00e4 kolmen hy\u00f6tyn\u00e4k\u00f6kulman kautta.\nJohtop\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksen\u00e4 todettiin, ett\u00e4 liikuntarajoitteisten k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4ryhmien\nkohdalla aktiivisten videopelien on mahdollista toimia perinteisten liikuntamuotojen\nkorvaajina. Muiden ei tulisi pit\u00e4\u00e4 aktiivista videopelaamista korvikkeena\nreippaalle perinteiselle liikunnalle, koska se ei aina t\u00e4yt\u00e4 riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n\ntehokkaalle liikunnalle asetettuja minimivaatimuksia. Perinteisten liikuntamuotojen\ntueksi aktiivisia videopelej\u00e4 voidaan suositella kaikille niille ihmisille,\njotka niit\u00e4 kykenev\u00e4t pelaamaan. The main goals of\nthis study were to find out what active video games are and whether the\nbenefits they offer can be compared to traditional forms of physical exercise.\nAdditionally, the way physically challenged user groups are taken into\nconsideration in active video games designed for them and whether the games\ncan in their case act as substitutes for traditional forms of physical exercise were\nexamined.\nActive video games refer to video game technology that is based on\nplayer's movement as the main way of interaction between the player and the\ngame. Active video gaming is the usage of video games also from the viewpoint\nof exercise and one of its most important goals is to provide the player with\nphysical benefit. The popularity of active video games has increased rapidly\nalong with the new generation gaming consoles. Modern technology enables\nmore and more diverse ways to conduct physical exercise by using active video\ngames.\nIn the beginning of this study, the definition of active video games, their\nbackground, goals and different forms were addressed. Next, four physically\nchallenged user groups for whom specially designed active video games are\nproduced were studied. Finally, the benefits active video games offer were\nexamined through three different viewpoints of benefit.\nThe main conclusion was that in case of challenged user groups, it is\npossible for active video games to act as substitutes of traditional forms of\nphysical exercise for them. Others should not consider active video gaming as a\nsubstitute for traditional exercise because it doesn't always fulfill the minimum\nrequirements for sufficiently effective exercise. As support for traditional\nexercise, active video games can be recommended for all those people who are\nable to play them.
