Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 (1) alakoulussa englanninkielist\u00e4 CLIL-opetusta toteuttavien opettajien k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 eriytt\u00e4misest\u00e4, (2) heid\u00e4n CLIL-opetuksessa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4mi\u00e4\u00e4n eriytt\u00e4miskeinoja sek\u00e4 (3) heid\u00e4n kokemiaan eriytt\u00e4misen haasteita. Tutkimuksen ensimm\u00e4isen vaiheen tavoitteena on laadullisen tapaustutkimuksen avulla lis\u00e4t\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 ja tietoutta eriytt\u00e4misest\u00e4 ilmi\u00f6n\u00e4 inklusiivisessa CLIL-opetuksessa ja tulla tietoiseksi erilaisista k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n eriytt\u00e4miskeinoista, joita opettajat voivat ty\u00f6ss\u00e4\u00e4n hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4. Tutkimuksen toinen vaihe selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisesti, miten ensimm\u00e4isen vaiheen tulokset n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyv\u00e4t laajemmin CLIL-opetuksessa tarjoten yleistett\u00e4v\u00e4mp\u00e4\u00e4 kuvaa CLIL-opetuksen eriytt\u00e4misest\u00e4. Tutkimuksen laadullinen aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin opettajien (n = 3) teemahaastatteluilla ja oppitunteja havainnoimalla. Litteroiduille haastatteluille ja havainnointimuistiinpanoille tehtiin teoriaohjaava sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysi ja ne teemoiteltiin. Tutkimuksen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llinen aineisto (n = 48) ker\u00e4ttiin kyselylomakkeen avulla, joka muodostettiin laadullisen osuuden tuloksista. Tutkimusvaiheen aineisto analysoitiin SPSS 20.0-ohjelmalla. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin, ett\u00e4 opettajat k\u00e4sittiv\u00e4t eriytt\u00e4misen hieman eri tavoin. Yleisesti ottaen opettajat eriyttiv\u00e4t CLIL-opetustaan varsin monipuolisesti erilaisilla opetusj\u00e4rjestelyill\u00e4 ja ty\u00f6tavoilla sek\u00e4 keskittyiv\u00e4t kielen eriytt\u00e4miseen. Lis\u00e4ksi opettajien k\u00e4sitykset eriytt\u00e4misest\u00e4 olivat yhteydess\u00e4 heid\u00e4n k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n eriytt\u00e4miseens\u00e4. V\u00e4hiten k\u00e4ytetyt eriytt\u00e4miskeinot liittyiv\u00e4t l\u00e4hinn\u00e4 erilaisiin rakenteellisiin tekij\u00f6ihin. Suurimmat eriytt\u00e4misen haasteet liittyiv\u00e4t aikaan, materiaaliin sek\u00e4 fyysiseen luokkatilaan. Tutkimus tarjoaa paljon erilaisia k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6n eriytt\u00e4miskeinoja, joita opettajat voivat hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4\u00e4 omassa CLIL-opetuksessaan sek\u00e4 nostaa esille keinoja, joilla eriytt\u00e4misen haasteisiin voidaan puuttua. Tutkimus antaa viitteit\u00e4 siit\u00e4, ett\u00e4 opettajien tulisi olla tietoisempia eriytt\u00e4misen luonteesta, jotta eriytt\u00e4minen olisi tavoitteellisempaa ja m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4tietoisempaa. Koulun tulisi my\u00f6s kriittisesti tarkastella rakenteitaan, jotta\r\nesimerkiksi runsaamman samanaikaisopetuksen, pienempien luokkakokojen tai tukiopetuksen avulla pystytt\u00e4isiin eriytt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n opetusta tehokkaammin.
