Kielellisi\u00e4 asenteita ja\r\nroolimalleja sek\u00e4 niiden vaikutuksia kielen opiskelumotivaatioon on tutkittu niin Suomessa\r\nkuin muuallakin maailmassa, ennen kaikkea globaalin englannin kielen kohdalla. Kuitenkin\r\nsit\u00e4, kuinka kielelliset roolimallit (idolit) sek\u00e4 ep\u00e4roolimallit (inhokit) vaikuttavat nuorten\r\nkielenoppijoiden opiskelumotivaatioon tai mist\u00e4 n\u00e4it\u00e4 esikuvia nyky\u00e4\u00e4n tulee, ei ole tutkittu.\r\nK\u00e4sill\u00e4 olevassa tutkielmassa selvitettiin yl\u00e4kouluik\u00e4isten (7.-, 8- ja 9.-luokkalaisten)\r\nkielellisi\u00e4 roolimalleja englannin kieless\u00e4 sek\u00e4 niiden alkuper\u00e4\u00e4 niin mediassa kuin koti- ja\r\nkouluymp\u00e4rist\u00f6iss\u00e4kin. Tutkimus my\u00f6s selvitti yl\u00e4kouluik\u00e4isten suosimat englannin kielen\r\nvariantit.\r\nTutkimus toteutettiin ker\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 kirjallinen aineisto yhdelt\u00e4 7.-, 8.- sek\u00e4 9.-luokalta, yhteens\u00e4\r\n49 vastaajalta, kyselylomakkeen avulla. Kyselylomakkeessa oli sek\u00e4 avoimia kysymyksi\u00e4,\r\nett\u00e4 monivalintakysymyksi\u00e4 seuraavista aihepiireist\u00e4: idolit, inhokit, esikuvat koti- ja\r\nkouluymp\u00e4rist\u00f6iss\u00e4 sek\u00e4 englannin kielen variantit. Aineisto analysoitiin ensin kvantitatiivisin\r\nmenetelmin kooten suosituimmat ja inhotuimmat roolimallit luokka-asteittain sek\u00e4\r\nsukupuolittain, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen tuloksista tehtiin kvalitatiivisia p\u00e4\u00e4telmi\u00e4 ilmi\u00f6n yleisist\u00e4\r\nsuuntauksista. Kielellisi\u00e4 roolimalleja tarkasteltiin my\u00f6s ryhm\u00e4identiteetin m\u00e4\u00e4ritt\u00e4jin\u00e4.\r\nTulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 roolimallit todella j\u00e4sent\u00e4v\u00e4t nuorten mieltymyksi\u00e4 sek\u00e4\r\nryhm\u00e4identiteetti\u00e4, etenkin sukupuolittain, joskaan ei niink\u00e4\u00e4n luokka-asteittain. Selke\u00e4sti\r\nyleisin idoleiden alkuper\u00e4 ovat amerikkalaiset tv-sarjat ja elokuvat, mik\u00e4 oli havaittavissa\r\nmy\u00f6s amerikanenglannin asemana suosituimpana englannin varianttina. Yleisimm\u00e4t inhokit\r\npuolestaan olivat kotimaisia urheilijoita ja poliitikkoja, jotka julkisuudessa k\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t\r\nenglantia.
