Oletukseni ennen tutkimuksen suorittamista oli, ett\u00e4 eroja l\u00f6ytyy ja yl\u00e4asteen opettajat kokisivat itsens\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n kasvattajana ja lukion opettajien ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 vastaavasti korostuisi voimakkaasti tiedon v\u00e4litt\u00e4misen teht\u00e4v\u00e4.\r\n\r\nTutkimus oli kvantitatiivinen ja materiaalina k\u00e4ytin ruotsinopettajilta ker\u00e4\u00e4mi\u00e4ni kysymyslomakkeita. Lomakkeessa oli v\u00e4itt\u00e4mi\u00e4 ja monivalintavaihtoehdot, joista opettajien tuli valita parhaiten omaa mielipidett\u00e4\u00e4n kuvaava vaihtoehto. Vastausvaihtoehdot olivat 1-5, jossa 1=t\u00e4ysin eri mielt\u00e4 ja 5=t\u00e4ysin samaa mielt\u00e4. Lopussa oli my\u00f6s yksi avokysymys, jossa opettajilla oli viel\u00e4 mahdollisuus sanallisesti kertoa omia k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4\u00e4n. Vastauksia kertyi runsaasti, kokonaisuudessaan 246, joista osa oli my\u00f6s muilta kuin yl\u00e4koulun tai lukion opettajilta.\r\n\r\nOpettajan roolin voi m\u00e4\u00e4ritell\u00e4 usealla eri tavalla ja taustatiedon ja kirjallisuuden l\u00f6yt\u00e4minen tuntuikin aluksi hankalalta. Aiheeseen liittyvi\u00e4 tutkimuksia l\u00f6ytyi kuitenkin muutamia ja l\u00f6ysin erilaisia m\u00e4\u00e4ritelmi\u00e4 opettajan roolista. My\u00f6s kyselylomakkeen v\u00e4itt\u00e4mien muodostaminen oli haasteellista, sill\u00e4 v\u00e4itt\u00e4mien tarkoitus oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 opettajien k\u00e4sityksi\u00e4 ja mielipiteit\u00e4 mutta olla kuitenkin johdattelematta vastaajia mill\u00e4\u00e4n tavalla.\r\n\r\nTulokset osoittavat alkuper\u00e4isen oletukseni osittain oikeaksi. Eroja eri asteella opettavien opettajien k\u00e4sityksiss\u00e4 opettajan roolista todellakin on, mutta erot olivat pienempi\u00e4 kuin etuk\u00e4teen oletin. Lukion opettajat kokevat keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin useammin olevansa tiedonv\u00e4litt\u00e4ji\u00e4 kuin yl\u00e4asteen opettajat, joiden ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 kasvatus n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi korostuvan enemm\u00e4n.
