Suuri osa uusien sanojen oppimisesta on kuitenkin oppilaiden\r\nomalla ajalla tapahtuvaa itsen\u00e4ist\u00e4 ty\u00f6skentely\u00e4, ja tutkimus oppilaiden omista k\u00e4sityksist\u00e4 eri\r\nstrategioiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 ja tehokkuudesta on ollut v\u00e4h\u00e4isemp\u00e4\u00e4. T\u00e4m\u00e4 kandidaatin tutkielma\r\nkeskittyi selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, millaisia strategioita lukion 1. vuoden opiskelijat k\u00e4ytt\u00e4v\u00e4t\r\nopiskellessaan sanastoa itsen\u00e4isesti, kuinka sitoutuneita he ovat sanaston laajentamiseen\r\najallisesti ja tavoitteellisesti katsottuna, ja mik\u00e4 heid\u00e4n mielest\u00e4 on koulun panos strategioiden\r\nopettamisessa.\r\nAineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kvalitatiivisia teemahaastatteluita sek\u00e4 kvantitatiivista web-kysely\u00e4\r\nk\u00e4ytt\u00e4en, ja kaikki tutkimukseen osallistuneet henkil\u00f6t olivat Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n Lyseon lukion 1.\r\nvuoden opiskelijoita. Tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 opiskelijat k\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t tiettyj\u00e4, l\u00e4hinn\u00e4\r\nkognitiivisia ja muististrategioita itsen\u00e4isess\u00e4 opiskelussa, vaikka kokivatkin niiden opetuksen\r\nkoulussa olleen hyvin v\u00e4h\u00e4ist\u00e4.
