Boreaaliset metsät eivät kohtaa vain planeetan suurimpia lämpötilanousuja, vaan myös kasvavaa metsätuotteiden kysyntää. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli löytää mahdollisille tuulen vahingoille alttiit alueet Suomessa ja vertailla eri metsänhoitomenetelmien sekä ilmastonmuutoksen vaikutusta alueellisiin eroihin. Lisäksi kahta monimuotoisuuden indikaattoria, sekä kahta metsätalouden indikaattoria analysoitiin yhteydessä metsänhoitomenetelmiin ja tuulen aiheuttamaan riskiin. Suomen hallinnollisia alueita käytettiin alueellisessa tarkastelussa. Analyysit suoritettiin R-ohjelmistolla paikkatietoja hyödyntäen. Tulokset osoittavat, että suurin tuulen tuottama uhka sijoittuu Etelä-Suomeen metsänhoitomenetelmästä riippumatta. Ilmastoskenaarioiden vaikutus näkyy koko Suomen alueella kohonneena tuulen riskinä. Myös indikaattorit osoittivat alueellisia eroja sekä indikaattoriarvon vaihtelua metsänhoitomenetelmien välillä. Indikaattorista riippuen, ilmastoskenaariot joko kasvattivat tai pienensivät indikaattoreiden arvoja. Etelä-Suomessa on huomattavasti suurempi puuston kasvu johtuen paremmista kasvuolosuhteista, minkä vuoksi tuulen aiheuttamat riskialueet oletettavasti keskittyvät Etelä-Suomeen. Käytännön erot eri metsänhoitojärjestelmissä korostavat sitä, kuinka metsätalous muokkaa monimuotoisuutta sekä puuntuotantoa. Jatkotutkimusta tarvitaan selvittämään mitkä yksittäiset tekijät vaikuttavat eniten mahdollisiin tuulivahinkoihin erityisesti haavoittuvilla alueilla kuten Etelä-Suomessa. Lisäksi olisi hyödyllistä löytää metsänhoitomenetelmä, joka ottaa huomioon mahdolliset tuulivaurioiden aiheuttamat riskit, puuntuotannon tarpeet sekä monimuotoisuuden. The disturbance regimes are changing across the globe due to climate change, which can result in a reduction of forest productivity and an increase of tree mortality. The boreal forests are experiencing not only the highest increase in temperatures on the planet but also a notable increase in demand for forest products. The aim of the study was to find vulnerable regions in Finland and show how wind damage risk changes spatially under different forest management regimes and climate change scenarios. Additionally, two biodiversity and two economic indicators were assessed in relation to forest management and potential damage wind risk. Spatial variation was examined through Finnish administrative regions. The study was conducted combining spatial information with forest growth simulation data. The analyses and graphs were carried out using R program. The results indicated that southern regions of Finland, such as Uusimaa and Southwest Finland, are facing the biggest wind damage risk under all forest management regimes looked at. Climate change scenarios amplify the wind damage risk across regions and forest management regimes. Additionally, the indicators showed spatial variation and between forest management regimes, their mean values differed notably. Depending on the indicator, climate scenarios either increased or decreased their value across regions. The highest wind damage risk in the south is likely linked to the highest growing stock, due to more favorable growing conditions compared to the northern regions. Differences under varying forest management regimes highlight that forestry plays a key role in biodiversity and wood production. More research is needed to show which of the possible factors contribute the most to future wind risk, especially in the southern parts of Finland, and what could be the best forest management regimes to mitigate this threat.
