Tutkimus on laadullinen ja perustuu kymmenen p\u00e4\u00e4kaupunkiseudulla ty\u00f6skentelev\u00e4n alakoulun opettajan puolistrukturoituihin teemahaastatteluihin, jotka analysoitiin sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysill\u00e4. \nOpettajat kuvasivat ty\u00f6n merkityksellisyytt\u00e4 t\u00e4rke\u00e4n\u00e4 voimavarana. Kokemus ty\u00f6n merkityksellisyydest\u00e4 rakentui monista tekij\u00f6ist\u00e4, kuten oppilaiden kanssa syntyv\u00e4st\u00e4 vuorovaikutuksesta, mahdollisuudesta vaikuttaa omaan ty\u00f6h\u00f6n, ty\u00f6n arvopohjaisuudesta ja kokemuksesta ty\u00f6n vaikuttavuudesta. Lis\u00e4ksi ty\u00f6n merkityksellisyyden kokemista voivat edist\u00e4\u00e4 sujuva yhteisty\u00f6 eri sidosryhmien kanssa, toimivat rakenteet ja riitt\u00e4v\u00e4t resurssit. Merkityksellisyytt\u00e4 uhkaavina tekij\u00f6in\u00e4 puolestaan n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyiv\u00e4t n\u00e4iden vastakohdat. Lis\u00e4ksi merkityksett\u00f6myytt\u00e4 loivat opettajien yhteiskunnallisen arvostuksen lasku, oppilaiden ja huoltajien ep\u00e4kunnioittavat asenteet sek\u00e4 ristiriitaiset koulutuspoliittiset linjaukset. My\u00f6s hallinnollisten teht\u00e4vien ja paperity\u00f6n lis\u00e4\u00e4ntyminen koettiin kuormittavana.\nTutkimuksessa havaittiin, ett\u00e4 ty\u00f6n merkityksellisyyden kokemista voidaan tarkastella my\u00f6s uravaiheiden kautta. Uransa alkuvaiheessa olevat opettajat korostivat erityisesti oppilassuhteiden merkityst\u00e4 ja kokivat enemm\u00e4n ep\u00e4varmuutta kokeneempiin kollegoihinsa verrattuna. Lis\u00e4ksi merkityksellisyyden kokemiseen kytkeytyi odotusten ja ty\u00f6arjen v\u00e4linen suhde.\nTutkimuksen perusteella ty\u00f6n merkityksellisyys n\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytyy dynaamisena ja muovautuvana ilmi\u00f6n\u00e4. Tutkimus tarjoaa ajankohtaista tietoa opettajien merkityksellisyyden elementeist\u00e4 ja lis\u00e4\u00e4 ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 siit\u00e4, miten merkityk-sellisyytt\u00e4 voidaan vahvistaa opettajien ty\u00f6ss\u00e4.
