Tuen tarpeet liittyiv\u00e4t oppimisen, sosioemotionaalisiin, k\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymisen sek\u00e4 tarkkaavaisuuden ja keskittymisen haasteisiin. Opettajan pystyvyysuskomuksia on tutkittu paljon, mutta matematiikan opettamisen pystyvyysuskomukset ovat edelleen v\u00e4h\u00e4n tutkittu alue. T\u00e4ll\u00e4 tutkimuksella pyrittiin tuottamaan uutta tietoa suomalaisten alakoulun luokanopettajien matematiikan \nopettamisen pystyvyysuskomuksista.\nTutkimusaineistona k\u00e4ytettiin VUOKKO-pitkitt\u00e4istutkimuksessa kyselylomakkeella ker\u00e4tty\u00e4 aineistoa. Aineisto sis\u00e4lsi 45 kolmannen luokan opettajan vastaukset taustatietoihin sek\u00e4 viisiportaisella asteikolla mitattuihin matematiikan \nopettamisen pystyvyysuskomuksiin ja matematiikkaan suhtautumiseen. Tutkimuskysymyksiin vastattiin lineaarisella regressioanalyysill\u00e4 ja korrelaatioita tarkastelemalla.\nTulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 opettajien positiivinen suhtautuminen matematiikkaan oli yhteydess\u00e4 vahvempiin matematiikan opettamisen pystyvyysuskomuksiin. Sen sijaan oppilasm\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4 tai tuen tarpeiden m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4ll\u00e4 ei ollut tilastollisesti \nmerkitsevi\u00e4 yhteyksi\u00e4 niihin. Matematiikan opettamisen pystyvyysuskomukset \neiv\u00e4t siis n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi olevan yhteydess\u00e4 luokan rakenteellisiin piirteisiin, vaan pikemminkin opettajan omaan suhtautumiseen matematiikkaan.
