Kaupallisiksi videopeleiksi lasketaan ne pelit, joita ei\nole suunniteltu varsinaisesti vieraiden kielten opettamiseen, ja niiden k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4 osana kielten opettamista ja niist\u00e4\noppimista k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n termi\u00e4 peliavusteinen kielen oppiminen ja opettaminen. Tutkimuksessa on my\u00f6s pohdittu,\nmillaisia opettajaidentiteettej\u00e4 opettajat muodostavat suhteessa kaupallisiin videopeleihin, huomioiden osallistujien\npelitaustojen merkitys identiteetin sek\u00e4 mielipiteiden muodostumiseen. Opettajaidentiteetin muodostuminen on\njatkuva prosessi, joka viittaa ammatillisen identiteetin lis\u00e4ksi henkil\u00f6kohtaisiin n\u00e4kemyksiin ja kokemuksiin. Kielten\nopettajien identiteettej\u00e4 on tutkittu teknologian kontekstissa jo hieman, mutta n\u00e4k\u00f6kulma kaupallisiin videopeleihin\npuuttuu. Tutkimus pyrkii my\u00f6s selvitt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n, mink\u00e4lainen rooli kaupallisilla videopeleill\u00e4 on englannin opetuksessa\nsuomalaisissa kouluissa, ja mink\u00e4laisia toiveita osallistujilla on jatkokoulutukseen vahvistaakseen heid\u00e4n kyky\u00e4ns\u00e4\nk\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 kaupallisia videopelej\u00e4 osana kielten opetusta. Tutkimusta varten on haastateltu 4 englannin aineenopettajaa\nymp\u00e4ri Suomea ja 3 opettajaopiskelijaa eri yliopistoista.\n\nTutkimuksen osallistujat ovat suurilta osin olleet aktiivisia videopelien pelaajia. He ovat k\u00e4ytt\u00e4neet p\u00e4\u00e4s\u00e4\u00e4nt\u00f6isesti\neri teknologisia sovelluksia ja opetuspelej\u00e4 kielten opetuksessa, ja vain kaksi osallistujista on t\u00e4h\u00e4n menness\u00e4\nhy\u00f6dynt\u00e4nyt kaupallisia pelej\u00e4. Videopelien n\u00e4htiin kasvattavan esimerkiksi oppijoiden motivaatiota, tukevan\nsanaston oppimista sek\u00e4 luetun- ja kuullunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4mist\u00e4. Osallistujat taas kokivat, ett\u00e4 kaupallisten videopelien\nk\u00e4yt\u00f6n haasteita ovat resurssipulat niin kouluissa kuin kotona, ajanpuute, ep\u00e4sopivat sis\u00e4ll\u00f6t etenkin tietyille\nik\u00e4ryhmille sek\u00e4 tietoturvaongelmat. Osallistujat muodostivat nelj\u00e4 erilaista opettajaidentiteetti\u00e4: innokas\nvideopelien k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4, tutkiskeleva opettaja, struktuurin keskittynyt opettaja sek\u00e4 avomielinen opettaja. Usea\nosallistuja positioi itsens\u00e4 siten, ett\u00e4 h\u00e4n sopi useampaan kuin yhteen identiteetin kuvaukseen. Tutkimus on\nmerkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 etenkin suomalaisessa kontekstissa, sill\u00e4 kaupallisten videopelien k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 voi nousta merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4ksi osaksi\nkielten opetuksessa, varsinkin jos aihetta tullaan k\u00e4sittelem\u00e4\u00e4n enemm\u00e4n opettajakoulutuksissa.
