A rapidly changing society and educational field necessitate ongoing professional development. The purpose of this study was to investigate how physical education teachers of different ages and career lengths develop their expertise. Additionally, the study examined whether potential barriers to expertise development exist.\n\nThe research was conducted using a quantitative approach. Data was collected through an electronic Webropol survey to secure a broad sample from the target group. The data was analyzed using the SPSS statistical software.\n\nA total of 73 physical education teachers from various regions of Finland participated in the study. The respondents' ages ranged from 26 to 67 years, and their teaching experience varied from one year to 40 years. The findings indicate that physical education teachers actively develop their expertise using a wide variety of methods. The most significant and beneficial method for expertise development highlighted in this research was self-reflection. The study shows that physical education teachers\u2019 interest in their own professional development declines as age increases. The most common barriers to expertise development among physical education teachers were lack of time, personal resources, and insufficient financial support from the workplace. These findings are relevant on multiple levels, as they highlight educational policy challenges and raise questions regarding the professional development of physical education teachers at different career stages. Aineistonkeruumenetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin s\u00e4hk\u00f6ist\u00e4 Webropol-kysely\u00e4, jotta kohdejoukosta saisi mahdollisimman laajan otannan. Aineisto analysoitiin SPSS-tilasto-ohjelmalla. \n\nTutkimukseen osallistui yhteens\u00e4 73 liikunnanopettajaa eri puolilta Suomea. Vastaajien ik\u00e4 oli 26\u201367 vuotta ja ty\u00f6kokemus liikunnanopettajana vaihteli yhdest\u00e4 vuodesta 40 vuoteen. Tutkimustulosten mukaan liikunnanopettajat kehittiv\u00e4t asiantuntijuuttaan aktiivisesti ja hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en monipuolisesti erilaisia keinoja. T\u00e4rkeimm\u00e4ksi ja hy\u00f6dyllisimm\u00e4ksi asiantuntijuuden kehitt\u00e4misen keinoksi t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa nousi esiin itsereflektio. Kiinnostus oman asiantuntijuuden kehitt\u00e4miseen n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi laskevan mit\u00e4 vanhemmasta ik\u00e4luokasta on kyse. Yleisimm\u00e4t esteet liikunnanopettajien asiantuntijuuden kehitt\u00e4miselle olivat ajan puute, omat voimavarat ja ty\u00f6paikan puutteelliset taloudelliset resurssit. Tutkimuksessa l\u00f6ydetyt tulokset voivat olla merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 monellakin tasolla, sill\u00e4 ne nostavat esiin koulutuspoliittisia haasteita ja her\u00e4tt\u00e4v\u00e4t kysymyksi\u00e4 liikunnanopettajien ammatillisesta kehitt\u00e4misest\u00e4 ty\u00f6uran eri vaiheissa.
