Tässä tutkielmassa perehdytään DDA:han sekä miten DDA:n tutkimukset lähestyvät pelien vaikeustasoa. Lisäksi tarkastellaan sen seurauksia pelikokemukseen kirjallisuuskatsauksen perusteella. DDA paransi pelikokemusta useimmissa tapauksissa. Dynaamisen vaikeustason säädön järjestelmiin liittyy kuitenkin joitain haasteita. Challenge in video games is an essential factor in game experience. A game too easy can be boring but a game too hard can induce frustration. One way to approach the adaptive difficulty in games is dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA). DDA’s purpose is to modify the game’s difficulty to a more appropriate level in real time. In this bachelor’s thesis we examine DDA and how existing studies of DDA approach game difficulty. In addition, we review its effects on gaming experience through a literature review. DDA has a positive effect on game experience in most cases. However, dynamic difficulty adjustment systems pose some challenges.
