Mishan 2003). Autenttiselle kielelle on esitetty monia m\u00e4\u00e4ritelmi\u00e4 (ks. esim. Morrow 1977). T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa autenttisella kielell\u00e4 tarkoitetaan kielt\u00e4, joka on syntynyt aidossa viestint\u00e4tilanteessa koulun ulkopuolella. \n\nKielisy\u00f6tteell\u00e4 on kielenoppimisessa keskeinen rooli, sill\u00e4 se antaa oppijalle esimerkkej\u00e4 kielen toiminnasta. Olemassa olevan tiedon avulla oppija voi ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4 esimerkiksi itselleen aiemmin vieraita sanoja tai kielioppirakenteita. Sy\u00f6tteen on todettu tukevan erityisesti reseptiivisen sanavaraston kehityst\u00e4, mutta sen vaikutuksesta produktiivisen sanavaraston kehitykseen on viel\u00e4 niukasti tutkimustuloksia. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus keskittyykin nimenomaan produktiivisen sanavaraston kehitykseen autenttisen kielisy\u00f6tteen avulla.\n\nProduktiivinen sanavarasto tarkoittaa sanoja, joita itse aktiivisesti k\u00e4yt\u00e4mme tuottamassamme puheessa ja kirjoituksessa. Reseptiivisen sanavaraston on todettu olevan selke\u00e4sti produktiivista suurempi (esim. Niitemaa 2014), ja produktiivisen sanavaraston kehitt\u00e4misen vaikeampaa, koska siihen liittyy monia eri osa-alueita, esimerkiksi sanan kirjoitusasu, \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4minen, merkitykset eri konteksteissa sek\u00e4 sanat, joiden kanssa se yleisimmin esiintyy.\n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 lukiolaisten henkil\u00f6kohtaisia kokemuksia autenttisen englanninkielisen sy\u00f6tteen vaikutuksesta heid\u00e4n produktiiviseen sanavarastoonsa. Aineisto ker\u00e4ttiin Webropol-kyselyll\u00e4, johon vastasi 154 lukiolaista ymp\u00e4ri Suomea ja se analysoitiin hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en sek\u00e4 kuvailevaa tilastotiedett\u00e4 ett\u00e4 laadullista sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysia.\n\nSuurin osa tutkimuksen osallistujista oli sit\u00e4 mielt\u00e4, ett\u00e4 autenttisen kielen kohtaaminen on parantanut heid\u00e4n itsevarmuuttaan k\u00e4ytt\u00e4\u00e4 englannin kielt\u00e4. Autenttisesta kielest\u00e4 opittu sanasto on heid\u00e4n mielest\u00e4\u00e4n arkisempaa ja p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4isiss\u00e4 keskusteluissa k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6llisemp\u00e4\u00e4 koulussa opittuun verrattuna. Autenttisesta kielest\u00e4 ei kuitenkaan kontekstista riippuen opi jokaista produktiivisen sanavaraston osa-aluetta, vaan sanasta saattaa oppia esimerkiksi pelk\u00e4n \u00e4\u00e4nt\u00e4mis- tai kirjoitusasun.
