Tutkielma tarkastelee, kuinka englannin kielen oppiminen toisena kielen\u00e4 voi olla hy\u00f6dyksi suomalaisille autismikirjon h\u00e4iri\u00f6\u00f6n (ASD) diagnosoiduille lapsille. \n\nAineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kyselylomakkeella, johon saatiin 34 vastausta vanhemmilta. Kyselyss\u00e4 kartoitettiin muun muassa englannin kielen oppimisen haasteita, hy\u00f6tyj\u00e4 ja oppimisprosessin taustatekij\u00f6it\u00e4. Tulokset analysoitiin m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisten ja laadullisten menetelmien avulla. \n\nKeskeisten tulosten mukaan 70 % vastaajista koki, ett\u00e4 heid\u00e4n lapsensa piti englannin kielest\u00e4 ja hy\u00f6tyi sen oppimisesta. Englanti n\u00e4htiin hy\u00f6dyllisen\u00e4 erityisesti tunteiden ilmaisussa, ik\u00e4vien asioiden k\u00e4sittelyss\u00e4 ja ajatusten j\u00e4sent\u00e4misess\u00e4. \n\nTutkimuksen tulokset viittaavat siihen, ett\u00e4 englannin kielen oppiminen voi tarjota autismikirjon lapsille t\u00e4rke\u00e4n v\u00e4lineen kommunikoinnin ja sosiaalisten taitojen kehitt\u00e4miseen.
