Yliopistot ymp\u00e4ri maailmaa ovat k\u00e4ynnist\u00e4neet aloitteita muuttaakseen kampuksensa \u00e4lykampuksiksi, ja aiheesta on julkaistu merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 tutkimusta. T\u00e4m\u00e4 pro gradu -tutkielma tarkastelee aihetta \u00e4lykampuksen mobiilisovellusten n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta, hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4en kirjallisuuskatsausta ja empiirist\u00e4 tapaustutkimusta er\u00e4\u00e4n \u00e4lykampuksen mobiilisovelluksen k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4kokemuksista. Tutkimuksen p\u00e4\u00e4tavoitteena on rakentaa ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 siit\u00e4, mitk\u00e4 ominaisuudet ja teknologiat ovat yleisimmin k\u00e4yt\u00f6ss\u00e4 \u00e4lykampuksen mobiilisovelluksissa, onko k\u00e4ytt\u00e4jill\u00e4 kiinnostusta integroida teko\u00e4ly\u00e4 t\u00e4llaisiin sovelluksiin, ja mihin kampusel\u00e4m\u00e4n osa-alueisiin sovellusten todellinen k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 kohdistuu. Tulokset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 \u00e4lykk\u00e4\u00e4n el\u00e4misen ja oppimisen alueet hallitsevat \u00e4lykampus-mobiilisovellusten k\u00e4ytt\u00f6\u00e4 ja ominaisuuksia \u2013 sovellukset tukevat merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti sek\u00e4 p\u00e4ivitt\u00e4ist\u00e4 el\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4, ett\u00e4 oppimiseen liittyvi\u00e4 toimintoja fyysisell\u00e4 kampuksella. Tutkimuksessa havaittiin my\u00f6s, ett\u00e4 laaja joukko teknologioita tukee n\u00e4iden sovellusten ominaisuuksia. N\u00e4ist\u00e4 teknologioista yleisimpi\u00e4 ovat mobiili, datan laskenta & tallennus sek\u00e4 IoT-teknologiat. Teko\u00e4lyn k\u00e4ytt\u00f6 on t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 v\u00e4h\u00e4isemp\u00e4\u00e4, mutta sill\u00e4 n\u00e4hd\u00e4\u00e4n olevan merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 tulevaisuuden potentiaalia. Lis\u00e4ksi havaittiin, ett\u00e4 tietyt yleiset ominaisuudet voivat parantaa \u00e4lykampuksen mobiilisovellusten hy\u00f6dyllisyytt\u00e4 ja k\u00e4tevyytt\u00e4. N\u00e4iden tulosten my\u00f6t\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus tuottaa teoreettista hy\u00f6ty\u00e4 esitt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4keskeisen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulman siihen, mik\u00e4 rooli mobiilisovelluksilla yleens\u00e4 on \u00e4lykampuksen ja sen sovellusalueiden kontekstissa. Essentially, the concept of a smart campus is about utilization of novel technology to build valuable services, that integrate to all aspects of the life on campus. Universities around the world have created initiatives to transform their campuses into smart ones, and significant research has been published on the topic. Through a literature review of this existing research, and an empirical case study focusing on user experiences of a particular smart campus mobile application through a theory of application domains, this master\u2019s thesis explores the topic from the viewpoint of smart campus mobile applications. The main goals of this research are to build an understanding of which features and technologies are commonly utilized in support of such mobile applications, whether there\u2019s interest in integrating artificial intelligence to such applications, and which domains of life on campus the applications\u2019 usage serves in practice. The results indicate the domains of Smart Living and Learning dominate the usage and features of smart campus mobile applications, with the applications taking a major role in supporting both daily life, and learning-related activities on physical campus. It was also found that wide variety of technologies are utilized to support the features of these applications, with mobile, data computing & storage, and IoT technology being most common, with artificial intelligence seeing less usage, but significant future potential. Additionally, it was found that several general qualities can increase usefulness and convenience of smart campus mobile applications. With these results, this research provides a theoretical contribution by presenting user-centric viewpoint into what role mobile applications usually play in the context of the smart campus and its application domains.
