T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkielmassa perehdyn VR:n kokemiseen ja kehollisuuteen empiirisesti haastattelujen avulla ja postfenomenologian teknologisen v\u00e4littymisen teorian n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta. Tarkastelen kuuden VR-sovelluksen ihminen\u2013teknologia\u2013maailma-suhteita Vindenesin ja Wassonin VR:lle kehitt\u00e4m\u00e4n mallin ja m\u00e4\u00e4rittelemien k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4\u2013ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6-suhteiden avulla. Tarkastelun kohteena on siis ihmisen ja virtuaalimaailman v\u00e4lille syntyv\u00e4 suhde sek\u00e4 se, miten sit\u00e4 koetaan ja tulkitaan. Tavoitteena on ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4, miten kehollisuus rakentaa virtuaalisubjektiutta VR:ss\u00e4.\nVirtuaalimaailmaa tulkitaan usein vastakkainasetteluiden, kuten subjekti\u2013objekti tai todellinen\u2013 illuusio kautta. My\u00f6s Vindenesin ja Wassonin malli j\u00e4sent\u00e4\u00e4 VR:\u00e4\u00e4 virtuaalisubjektin, eli k\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4n, ja toiseuden, eli virtuaalimaailman objektiuden suhteena. K\u00e4ytt\u00e4j\u00e4 on ihminen ja virtuaalimaailman subjektius yhdess\u00e4, kun objektius taas m\u00e4\u00e4rittyy sen kautta mit\u00e4 virtuaalimaailmassa ei koeta osana itse\u00e4. El\u00e4mme teknologiaa kuitenkin kehollisesti ja virtuaalikeho on lihan liukumapinta virtuaalimaailman subjektiuksiin ja objektiuksiin. Korostan siis virtuaalikehoa subjektiuksia ja objektiuksia j\u00e4sent\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 tekij\u00e4n\u00e4, jonka v\u00e4lityksell\u00e4 osa virtuaalimaailmasta tuodaan niin sanotusti iholle ja itseen, kun osa taas j\u00e4\u00e4 ihmisen kontrollin sek\u00e4 huomion ulkopuolelle.\nVR:ss\u00e4 virtuaalikeho on usein n\u00e4kym\u00e4t\u00f6n, mutta ei kuitenkaan olematon. Virtuaalikehojen kirjo on mittava, mink\u00e4 vuoksi olen hahmotellut viisi ulottuvuutta, joiden avulla niiden monimuotoisuutta voi tarkastella: toiminnallinen virtuaalikeho, representatiivinen virtuaalikeho, fenomenaalinen virtuaalikeho, l\u00e4sn\u00e4oleva virtuaalikeho ja kerroksellinen virtuaalikeho. In this dissertation, I explore embodiment in VR empirically through interviews and from the perspective of postfenomenology\u2019s theory of technological mediation. I examine the human-technology-world relations of six VR applications using the postphenomenological framework and user-environment relations defined by Vindenes and Wasson. The focus is on the relationship that forms in between a human and the virtual world: how is it experienced and interpret. The goal is to understand how embodiment constitutes virtual subjectivity in VR.\nThe virtual world is often interpreted through dichotomies such as subject-object or reality- illusion. Vindenes and Wasson's model also structures VR as a relationship between the virtual subject, the user, and otherness, the objectivity of the virtual world. The user is the human and the subjectivity of the virtual world together, while objectivity is defined by what is not experienced as part of oneself in the virtual world. However, we live technology bodily and the virtual body is how the flesh navigates in the subjectivities and objectivities of VR. Therefore, I emphasize the virtual body as a structuring factor of subjectivities and objectivities, through which part of the virtual world is brought to the skin and into the self, while some parts remain outside the control and attention of the human.\nIn VR, the virtual body is often invisible, but never non-existent. The spectrum of virtual bodies is vast, which is why I have outlined five dimensions to examine their diversity: functional virtual body, representative virtual body, phenomenal virtual body, present virtual body, and layered virtual body. How the virtual body is designed and how it is perceived can differ considerably, which is why the virtual body is an interesting subject of empirical research as well as a tool for recognizing nuanced user\u2013environment relations.
