Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää fyysisen aktiivisuuden, kokonaisenergiansaannin, korkean GI hiilihydraattien saannin ja insuliinisensitiivisyyden/resistenssin sekä NAFLD:n välisiä yhteyksiä. Tutkimus toteutettiin poikkileikkaustutkimuksena. Koehenkilöt olivat 57-78-vuotiaita miehiä ja naisia (n=1410) DR’s Extra-tutkimuksesta. Rasvamaksaindeksiä (FLI) käytettiin kuvaamaan maksan rasvoittumista. Henkilöt, joilla oli (aiempi tai nykyinen) hepatiitti tai liiallinen alkoholin käyttö (miehet ≥30 g/pv ja naiset ≥20 g/pv, n=577) poissuljettiin analyysista. Fyysistä aktiivisuutta mitattiin edellisen 12 kk:n ajalta käyttäen muokattua versiota Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire -kyselylomakkeesta ja ruokavaliota arvioitiin 4 päivän ruokapäiväkirjalla. Insuliinisensitiivisyyttä mitattiin Matsuda Index of Insulin Sensitivity -indeksillä (Matsuda ISI), joka laskettiin sokerirasituskokeen perusteella. Insuliiniresistenssiä arvioitiin Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) -menetelmällä. Tilastolliset analyysit suoritettiin SPSS-ohjelmistolla. Tutkimuksen tulokset ovat saatavilla myöhemmin julkaistavassa tutkimusartikkelissa. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is currently the most prevalent liver disease in Western countries. Physical activity (PA) and Mediterranean diet are recognized as protective factors against NAFLD, whereas sedentary behavior, insulin resistance, and poor diet, characterized by an excessive energy intake, high consumption of saturated fats and sugars, increase the risk of NAFLD. However, lesser studies have focused on the association between high glycemic index (GI) carbohydrates and NAFLD. The present study aims to investigate the association between PA, total energy intake, high glycemic index (GI) carbohydrate intake, and insulin sensitivity/resistance with NAFLD. The study was a cross-sectional analysis of 57-78-year-old men and women (n=1410) from DR’s Extra Study. Fatty liver Index (FLI) was used to describe hepatic steatosis. Individuals with (prior or current) hepatitis or excessive alcohol consumption (men≥30 g/d and women ≥20 g/d, n=577) were excluded from the analysis. PA from previous 12 months was assessed by using modified version of Minnesota Leisure Time Physical Activity Questionnaire and dietary factors were assessed by using a 4-day food diary. Insulin sensitivity was assessed by Matsuda Index of Insulin Sensitivity (Matsuda ISI) that was derived from oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) with a 75 g of glucose drink. Insulin resistance was assessed by Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR). Statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS software. The results of this study will be available later in the forthcoming research article.
