T\u00e4m\u00e4n vuoksi on syyt\u00e4 tutkia, valmistaako suomalainen lukiokoulutus opiskelijansa riitt\u00e4v\u00e4n hyvin ylioppilaskokeita varten. T\u00e4m\u00e4 tutkimus keskittyy erityisesti englannin kielen opetukseen ja oppimiseen.\nTutkimuksen tarkoituksena on selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 nykyisten lukiolaisten tai aiemmin Suomessa lukiokoulutuksensa saaneiden henkil\u00f6iden kokemuksia siit\u00e4, kuinka hyvin lukion englanninopetus valmistaa ylioppilaskokeeseen. Tutkimuksen aineisto on ker\u00e4tty kyselylomakkeella, jossa kielitaidon eri osa-alueet ovat jaoteltuna ylioppilaskokeessa testattavien kategorioiden mukaisesti kuullunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4miseen, luetunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4miseen, tekstin tuottamiseen ja kielioppiin. Kyselyyn on my\u00f6s sis\u00e4llytetty kysymyksi\u00e4 koskien suullista kielitaitoa, siit\u00e4 huolimatta, ett\u00e4 se ei t\u00e4ll\u00e4 hetkell\u00e4 ole osa kielten ylioppilaskokeita. Suullisen osion sis\u00e4llytt\u00e4misest\u00e4 ylioppilaskokeisiin on keskusteltu paljon vuosien varrella, joten my\u00f6s sen opettamisen riitt\u00e4vyydest\u00e4 on relevanttia ker\u00e4t\u00e4 lis\u00e4\u00e4 tietoa. Kyselyn tulokset analysoidaan p\u00e4\u00e4asiassa m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4llisesti tilastollisesti kuvaavan analyysin avulla. \nAnalyysi osoittaa, ett\u00e4 enemmist\u00f6 vastaajista kokee kuullunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen ja tekstin tuottamisen harjoittelun lukion englannintunneilla riitt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6m\u00e4ksi ylioppilaskokeen kannalta. Mahdollisina selityksin\u00e4 t\u00e4lle nousee avoimissa vastauksissa muun muassa ylioppilaskokeen kuullunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misteht\u00e4vien vaikeus ja sek\u00e4 kuullunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen ett\u00e4 kirjallisen tuottamisen v\u00e4h\u00e4inen harjoittelu. Sen sijaan luetunymm\u00e4rt\u00e4misen opetus koetaan p\u00e4\u00e4osin riitt\u00e4v\u00e4ksi. Vastaukset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 kieliopin harjoittelu koetaan jopa liialliseksi, suuren harjoittelum\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n viedess\u00e4 aikaa muihin kielen osa-alueisiin keskittymiselt\u00e4. Suullista tuottamista k\u00e4sittelev\u00e4t vastaukset osoittavat, ett\u00e4 vastaajat pit\u00e4v\u00e4t sit\u00e4 kaikista v\u00e4hiten harjoiteltuna kielen osa-alueena.\nN\u00e4iden tulosten perusteella lukion englannin kielen opetusta tulisi kehitt\u00e4\u00e4 siten, ett\u00e4 opetus vastaisi riitt\u00e4vyydelt\u00e4\u00e4n ja vaikeustasoltaan paremmin ylioppilaskokeen tasoa, jotta kaikilla opiskelijoilla olisi tasavertaiset mahdollisuudet p\u00e4rj\u00e4t\u00e4 kokeissa kielitaidon l\u00e4ht\u00f6tasosta riippumatta. \nTulokset eiv\u00e4t ole laajemmin yleistett\u00e4viss\u00e4, sill\u00e4 tutkimukseen osallistui 26 vastaajaa. T\u00e4m\u00e4n vuoksi lis\u00e4\u00e4 tutkimusta aiheesta kaivataan.
