Viruksen tarttumiseen ja s\u00e4ilymiseen pinnalla vaikuttavat sek\u00e4 viruksen ja pinnan v\u00e4lille muodostuvat vuorovaikutukset ett\u00e4 vallitsevat olosuhteet. Viel\u00e4 ei ole varmaa tietoa siit\u00e4, miten vaihteleva l\u00e4mp\u00f6tila ja ilmankosteus yhdess\u00e4 pintamateriaalin kanssa vaikuttavat virusten s\u00e4ilymiseen. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4 vaipallisen koronaviruksen ja vaipattoman enteroviruksen infektiokyvyn s\u00e4ilymist\u00e4 eri materiaaleilla kaupan olosuhteissa. Tutkimuskysymyksen\u00e4 oli, s\u00e4ilyv\u00e4tk\u00f6 ihmisen koronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43) ja enteroviruksiin kuuluva coxsackievirus A9 (CVA9) infektiivisin\u00e4 kaupan tuotteiden pinnoilla 24 tuntia kaupan eri osastoja vastaavissa olosuhteissa. Virusten s\u00e4ilymist\u00e4 tutkittiin kaupan eri osastoille tyypillisill\u00e4 materiaaleilla toteuttamalla inkubointi olosuhdekammiossa osastoja j\u00e4ljitteleviss\u00e4 kosteus- ja l\u00e4mp\u00f6tilaolosuhteissa. Molempien virusten infektiivisyys m\u00e4\u00e4ritettiin CPE-menetelm\u00e4ll\u00e4, ja HCoV-OC43-viruksen infektiivisyys m\u00e4\u00e4ritettiin lis\u00e4ksi RT-qPCR-menetelm\u00e4ll\u00e4. Havaittiin, ett\u00e4 HCoV-OC43 s\u00e4ilytti infektiivisyytens\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4osin hyvin testatuilla materiaaleilla kaikissa olosuhteissa, mutta puuvillalla infektiivisyys heikkeni merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti. CVA9\u2013viruksen infektiokyky heikkeni merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti huokoisilla materiaaleilla. Yll\u00e4tt\u00e4en vaipallinen HCoV-OC43 s\u00e4ilytti infektiivisyytens\u00e4 useammilla testatuilla materiaaleilla kuin vaipaton CVA9, joka on yleens\u00e4 todettu vaipallisia viruksia stabiilimmaksi. Kummankin viruksen havaittiin s\u00e4ilyv\u00e4n paremmin ei-huokoisilla kuin huokoisilla pinnoilla. Olosuhteilla ei havaittu vaikutusta virusten s\u00e4ilymiseen t\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimusasetelmassa. Olosuhteiden vaikutusta pit\u00e4isi kuitenkin viel\u00e4 tutkia pidemm\u00e4ll\u00e4 inkubaatioajalla ja useammilla materiaaleilla. Viruses causing respiratory tract infections mainly spread via airborne transmission but they can also spread via virus contaminated surfaces. Factors affecting virus adsorption and survival on surfaces are virus-surface interactions and environmental conditions. Information is lacking on how changes in temperature and humidity together with the surface material affect virus survival. The aim of this study was to explore the survival of enveloped coronavirus and non-enveloped enterovirus on different surface materials found in a store. The main objective was to examine if Human Coronavirus OC43 (HCoV-OC43) and Coxsackievirus A9 (CVA9) remain infectious on different surfaces for 24 hours in the conditions measured in a store. Viruses were pipetted on the materials of interest and the incubation was carried out in a humidity chamber that was programmed to follow the given conditions. Viral infectivity after incubation was determined by using cytopathic effect assay and additionally RT-qPCR for HCoV-OC43. HCoV-OC43 was found to remain infectious on all tested materials excluding cotton. The infectivity of CVA9 decreased significantly on porous materials and the virus was not infective on as many different materials as HCoV-OC43 in this experiment. After all viral infectivity of both viruses was higher on nonporous surfaces than porous surfaces. Different environmental conditions were not found to affect virus survival. However, the effects of humidity and temperature might be observed with a longer incubation time.
