Tutkimukset ovat osoittaneet, ett\u00e4 liialliseen ty\u00f6skentelyyn taipuvainen ty\u00f6ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6 on yhteydess\u00e4 yksil\u00f6n liialliseen ja pakonomaiseen ty\u00f6skentelyyn. Lis\u00e4ksi on ehdotettu, ett\u00e4 johtajat ja esihenkil\u00f6t voivat altistaa alaisensa liialliselle ty\u00f6skentelylle. Ty\u00f6paikalla saadun sosiaalisen tuen ja liiallisen ty\u00f6skentelyn v\u00e4lisest\u00e4 yhteydest\u00e4 on kuitenkin saatu kesken\u00e4\u00e4n ristiriitaisia tuloksia.\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin hierarkkisella lineaarisella regressioanalyysilla vastaajan arvioiman esihenkil\u00f6n ja/tai ty\u00f6kavereiden ty\u00f6riippuvuutta ilment\u00e4v\u00e4n k\u00e4yt\u00f6ksen yleisyyden yhteytt\u00e4 vastaajan itsearvioituun ty\u00f6riippuvuuteen sek\u00e4 vastaajan esihenkil\u00f6lt\u00e4 ja/tai organisaatiolta saadun sosiaalisen tuen mahdollista muuntavaa vaikutusta t\u00e4h\u00e4n yhteyteen. Vastaajan itsearvioitua perfektionismia ja ty\u00f6n vaatimuksia sek\u00e4 vastaajan johtoteht\u00e4viss\u00e4 ty\u00f6skentely\u00e4 tarkasteltiin kontrollimuuttujina, sill\u00e4 n\u00e4iden on aiemmin havaittu olevan yhteydess\u00e4 ty\u00f6riippuvuuteen. Tutkittavat (n = 1 499) osallistuivat Suomessa vuonna 2023 toteutettuun avoimeen kyselytutkimukseen. Merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4 osa vastaajista oli naisia (75,9 %) ja korkeasti koulutettuja (74,3 %). Kysely toteutettiin osana laajaa kansainv\u00e4list\u00e4 ty\u00f6riippuvuutta koskevaa tutkimushanketta.\nTulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 regressiomallissa ty\u00f6kavereiden ty\u00f6riippuvuus selitti tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti vastaajan ty\u00f6riippuvuutta ja lis\u00e4si mallin selitysastetta 2 prosenttiyksikk\u00f6\u00e4. Sen sijaan esihenkil\u00f6n ty\u00f6riippuvuus ei selitt\u00e4nyt regressiomallissa vastaajan ty\u00f6riippuvuutta tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti. Tutkimuksen kolmella kontrollimuuttujalla, eli perfektionismilla, ty\u00f6n vaatimuksilla ja johtoteht\u00e4viss\u00e4 ty\u00f6skentelyll\u00e4, oli kuitenkin merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4sti ty\u00f6kavereiden ty\u00f6riippuvuutta suurempi selitysosuus (45,3 %) suhteessa vastaajan ty\u00f6riippuvuuteen. Esihenkil\u00f6lt\u00e4 saadun tuen havaittiin vahvistavan (B = .041, p = 0.027) ty\u00f6kavereiden ty\u00f6riippuvuuden ja vastaajan ty\u00f6riippuvuuden v\u00e4list\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4 silloin, kun vastaaja oli arvioinut ty\u00f6kavereidensa ilment\u00e4v\u00e4n runsasta ty\u00f6riippuvaista k\u00e4yt\u00f6st\u00e4. Organisaatiolta saadulla tuella ei havaittu olevan muuntavaa vaikutusta t\u00e4h\u00e4n yhteyteen.\nTy\u00f6kavereiden ty\u00f6riippuvuuden yhteys vastaajan ty\u00f6riippuvuuteen sek\u00e4 esihenkil\u00f6lt\u00e4 saadun tuen t\u00e4t\u00e4 yhteytt\u00e4 vahvistava vaikutus olivat tutkimuksen merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 l\u00f6yd\u00f6ksi\u00e4, jotka tulisi huomioida osana organisaatioiden johtamista ja esihenkil\u00f6ty\u00f6t\u00e4, ty\u00f6ntekij\u00f6iden hyvinvoinnin edist\u00e4miseksi. Prior research has shown that work environments prone to excessive work are related to an individual\u2019s tendency to work excessively and compulsively. Furthermore, it has been proposed that directors and supervisors can expose their subordinates to excessive working. However, research on the associations between social support received at the workplace and excessive working has yielded contradictory results.\nOur analysis was conducted using hierarchical linear regression analysis. We examined the association between the respondent\u2019s assessments of the prevalence of his/her colleagues\u2019 and/or supervisor\u2019s work addicted behavior and the respondent\u2019s self-assessed work addiction. Moreover, we investigated how social support received from the respondent\u2019s supervisor and/or the organization may moderate this association. The respondent\u2019s self-assessed perfectionism and work demands as well as the respondent\u2019s possible managerial position were controlled for due to prior research having demonstrated these factors\u2019 association with work addiction. The examinees (n = 1499) completed an open survey conducted in Finland in 2023. A considerable proportion of the respondents were women (75.9%) and highly educated (74.3%). The survey was conducted as part of a large international research project on work addiction.\nThe results demonstrated that in the regression model, colleagues\u2019 work addiction explained the respondent\u2019s work addiction statistically significantly, adding 2 percentage points to the model\u2019s coefficient of determination, while the supervisor\u2019s work addiction did not. However, compared to colleagues\u2019 work addiction, the three control variables (perfectionism, work demands and the respondent\u2019s possible managerial position) clearly explained more of the variance in the respondent\u2019s work addiction (45.3%). The support received from the supervisor strengthened (B = .041, p = 0.027) the association between colleagues\u2019 and respondents\u2019 work addiction when respondents had evaluated their colleagues\u2019 work addiction as being high. The support received from the organization did not moderate this association.\nThe relationship between colleagues\u2019 and the respondent\u2019s work addiction as well as the strengthening effect of supervisor support on this relationship were significant findings with important implications. This relationship should be considered as part of organizational management and by supervisors in order to promote employee wellbeing.
