The level of uncertainty has increased and the crises we face both in our societies and within organisations have changed their shape and form, from being isolated incidents to being transboundary by nature and part of global turbulences and movements. The purpose of this study is to explore the concept of uncertainty in the general environment, and how it affects what is expected from leaders.\r\nThe theoretical background drawn from earlier crisis leadership research and the uncertainty-identity theory (e.g., Hogg, 2007) suggest that uncertainty leads people to heavily rely on their leader (Hogg & Rast, 2016; Rast et al., 2012) and people tend to start preferring strong and directive forms of leadership \u2013 even to the extent of preferring autocratic leadership over more democratic forms of leadership (Rast et al., 2013). Based on the theoretical findings, this study hypothesises that uncertainty has a positive relationship with preference of strong leadership. The type or cause of uncertainty should play no role, and the relationship does not disappear when controlled with social group memberships.\r\nThe data analysed in this study (n= 2,045) is collected for the Finnish Business and Policy Forum (EVA) by Taloustutkimus during fall 2023 as a part of a survey series EVA Surveys on Finnish Values and Attitudes. The data is analysed with statistical analysis methods. Different types of uncertainty are defined through explorative factor analysis. The main relationship between uncertainty and preference of strong leadership is then tested with multiple linear regression (MLR).\r\nThe results of the study suggest that financial uncertainty and uncertainty related to one\u2019s physical integrity, i.e., uncertainty from threat of violence, increase the preference of strong leadership. The perceived salience and importance of the cause of uncertainty (Hogg, 2007), and the uncertainty\u2019s relation to one\u2019s self-concept (Rast, 2015) seemed to affect the low impact of uncertainty from hybrid threats to preference of strong leadership. Further studies on the effects of uncertainty from opinionated and polarised threats and gender are required. Hogg, 2007) ammennettu teoreettinen tausta viittaa siihen, ett\u00e4 ep\u00e4varmuus saa ihmiset turvautumaan vahvasti johtajaansa (Hogg &; Rast, 2016; Rast et al., 2012) ja aiheuttaa taipumusta vahvan ja m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4n johtamistyylin suosimiseen \u2013 jopa siin\u00e4 m\u00e4\u00e4rin, ett\u00e4 autokraattista johtajuutta suositaan demokraattisempien johtamistyylien sijaan (Rast et al., 2013). Teoriakatsauksen perusteella muodostettiin t\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen hypoteesit. Ep\u00e4varmuudella oletetaan olevan positiivinen yhteys vahvan johtajuuden suosimiseen. Ep\u00e4varmuuden aiheuttajalla ei pit\u00e4isi olla merkityst\u00e4, eik\u00e4 yhteys katoa, kun sit\u00e4 kontrolloidaan sosiaaliseen ryhm\u00e4\u00e4n kuuluvuuden muuttujilla. \r\nT\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa analysoitu data (n= 2,045) on ker\u00e4tty Elinkeinoel\u00e4m\u00e4n valtuuskunnalle (EVA) Taloustutkimuksen toimesta syksyn 2023 aikana, osana EVAn Arvo- ja asennetutkimukset -kyselytutkimussarjaa. Aineisto analysoitiin tilastollisin analyysimenetelmin. Erilaisia ep\u00e4varmuustekij\u00f6it\u00e4 m\u00e4\u00e4riteltiin eksploratiivisen faktorianalyysin avulla. Ep\u00e4varmuuden ja vahvan johtajuuden mieltymysten v\u00e4list\u00e4 p\u00e4\u00e4suhdetta testattiin monimuuttujaisella lineaarisella regressioanalyysilla.\r\nTutkimuksen tulokset viittaavat siihen, ett\u00e4 taloudellinen ep\u00e4varmuus ja fyysiseen koskemattomuuteen liittyv\u00e4 ep\u00e4varmuus eli v\u00e4kivallan uhan aiheuttama ep\u00e4varmuus lis\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4t vahvan johtajuuden mieltymyst\u00e4. Ep\u00e4varmuuden syyn koettu merkitys ja t\u00e4rkeys (Hogg, 2007) sek\u00e4 ep\u00e4varmuuden suhde min\u00e4kuvaan (Rast, 2015) n\u00e4yttiv\u00e4t vaikuttavan hybridiuhkien aiheuttaman ep\u00e4varmuuden v\u00e4h\u00e4iseen vaikutukseen vahvan johtajuuden suosimiseen. Lis\u00e4tutkimuksia polarisoituneiden uhkien aiheuttaman ep\u00e4varmuuden ja sukupuolen vaikutuksista tarvitaan.
