The study aimed to find out how ready the physical education \nteacher-students feel they are to teach physical education to culturally and linguistically diverse \ngroups. In addition, the aim was to increase understanding of how the physical education \nteacher-students see the role of the physical education teacher and embodied language teaching \nin a diversifying school world.\nThe study was carried out as a qualitative study. The research material has been collected from \nthe equality courses of the Faculty of Sport and Health Sciences at the University of Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4, \nas part of the ELLA project funded by the Kone Foundation (01/2021\u201312/2024; Project number \n202007315). The research material was collected by the course teacher and consisted of ten\nphysical education students\u2019 interviews (2021) and 33 students\u2019 answers (2023) to six open \nquestions. The data was analyzed using theory-guided content analysis. In the study, a model\nof intercultural competence served as the theoretical framework.\nThe main findings of the study were that physical education teacher students experienced\ncultural and linguistic diversity as a growing part of physical education teacher\u2019s work, and that\nthe work of a teacher requires a lot of intercultural competence. The students felt that the \nintegration of pupils from different cultures into the school and Finnish society, was also the \nresponsibility of the physical education teacher. Teacher-students saw physical education \nclasses as an important part of the integration process for students who immigrated to Finland, \nas well as a good opportunity to learn the Finnish language.\nFrom the experiences and attitudes of the students, it emerged that they had a good capability \nand knowledge for both equal, cultural diversity-promoting physical education and embodied \nlanguage teaching in connection with physical education. However, students also raised\ninsecurities about their own competence which can affect the utilization of their competence in \nworking life. The results of the study confirm the importance of courses containing themes \nabout cultural diversity and language teaching as part of the physical education teacher training \nto develop as a physical education teacher in a diversifying society. Lis\u00e4ksi pyrittiin lis\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n ymm\u00e4rryst\u00e4 siit\u00e4, miten \nliikunnanopettajaopiskelijat n\u00e4kev\u00e4t liikunnanopettajan roolin sek\u00e4 kielitietoisuuden ja \nkehollisuuden huomioinnin moninaistuvassa koulumaailmassa.\nTutkielma oli laadullinen. Tutkielman aineisto on ker\u00e4tty Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4n yliopiston \nliikuntatieteellisen tiedekunnan yhdenvertaisuusopintojaksoilta osana Koneen s\u00e4\u00e4ti\u00f6n \nrahoittamaa (01/2021\u201312/2024; hankenumero 202007315) ELLA-hanketta. Aineisto koostuu\nkurssin opettajan ker\u00e4\u00e4m\u00e4st\u00e4 kymmenen liikunnanopettajaopiskelijan haastattelusta (2021) ja \n33 liikunnanopettajaopiskelijan vastauksista (2023) kuuteen avoimeen kysymykseen. Aineisto \nanalysoitiin teoriaohjaavalla sis\u00e4ll\u00f6nanalyysilla, jossa teoreettisena viitekehyksen\u00e4 toimi malli \nkulttuurienv\u00e4lisen osaamisen ulottuvuuksista.\nTulosten mukaan liikunnanopettajaopiskelijat kokivat kulttuurisen ja kielellisen \nmoninaisuuden olevan yh\u00e4 merkitt\u00e4v\u00e4mpi osa liikunnanopettajan ty\u00f6t\u00e4 ja liikunnanopettajan \nty\u00f6n vaativan paljon kulttuurienv\u00e4list\u00e4 osaamista. Opiskelijat kokivat eri kulttuureista tulevien \noppilaiden sopeuttamisen kouluun ja suomalaiseen yhteiskuntaan olevan my\u00f6s \nliikunnanopettajan vastuulla. Opiskelijat n\u00e4kiv\u00e4t liikuntatuntien olevan t\u00e4rke\u00e4 osa \nkotoutumisprosessia Suomeen muuttaneille oppilaille, sek\u00e4 hyv\u00e4 mahdollisuus suomen kielen \noppimiselle.\nOpiskelijoiden kokemukset ja asenne osoittavat, ett\u00e4 heill\u00e4 oli hyv\u00e4t valmiudet \nyhdenvertaiselle, kulttuurista moninaisuutta edist\u00e4v\u00e4lle liikunnanopetukselle ja keholliselle \nkielenopetukselle liikuntatunneilla. Opiskelijat nostivat kuitenkin esille my\u00f6s ep\u00e4varmuuksia \nomaan osaamiseensa liittyen, mik\u00e4 voi vaikuttaa heid\u00e4n osaamisensa hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4miseen \nty\u00f6el\u00e4m\u00e4ss\u00e4. Tutkielman tulokset vahvistavat liikunnanopettajakoulutuksen kulttuuriseen \nmoninaisuuteen ja kieltenopetukseen liittyvien kurssien t\u00e4rkeytt\u00e4 osana liikunnanopettajaksi \nkehittymist\u00e4 moninaistuvassa yhteiskunnassa.
