T\u00e4m\u00e4n lis\u00e4ksi tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tarkastella pohkeen lihasten (gastrocnemius medialis ja lateralis) arkkitehtuurin merkityst\u00e4 nilkan isometriseen maksimivoi-maan ja kevennyshyppyyn. Tutkimukseen osallistui yhteens\u00e4 14 perustervett\u00e4 huipputason joukkuevoimistelijaa, joista kaikki olivat naisia. Tutkittavat olivat i\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4n 17\u201320-vuotiaita. Tutkimusasetelmana oli poikittaistutkimus, eli kaikki tutkittavat tulivat tutkimusmittauksiin yhden p\u00e4iv\u00e4n ajaksi. Tutkimus tapahtui Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4ss\u00e4 liikuntalaboratorion tiloissa.\n\nTutkittavat suorittivat ensin kolme maksimaalista kevennyshyppy\u00e4 30 sekunnin palautuksilla. T\u00e4m\u00e4n j\u00e4lkeen tehtiin 90 sekunnin avustettu venytys lonkankoukistajille ja etureisille. V\u00e4litt\u00f6-m\u00e4sti venytyksen j\u00e4lkeen suoritettiin j\u00e4lleen maksimaalinen kevennyshyppy. Venytyksen j\u00e4lkei-sen palautusajan vaikutusta kevennyshyppyyn tarkasteltiin suorittamalla kevennyshyppy viel\u00e4 2, 4, 6 ja 8 minuuttia venytyksen j\u00e4lkeen. Samanlainen protokolla suoritettiin my\u00f6s isometriselle nilkanojennukselle pohjevenytyksen j\u00e4lkeen. \n\nLihaksen arkkitehtuuria mittaavana menetelm\u00e4n\u00e4 k\u00e4ytettiin ultra\u00e4\u00e4nikuvia. Ultra\u00e4\u00e4nell\u00e4 tarkastel-tiin toisen jalan pohkeen lihaksia (gastrocnemius medialis ja lateralis). Ultra\u00e4\u00e4nitutkimus tehtiin samalle jalalle, jolla tutkittava halusi suorittaa isometrisen nilkanojennuksen. Ultra\u00e4\u00e4nikuvat otet-tiin Telemed ArtUs -laitteella. Lihaksista m\u00e4\u00e4ritettiin lihasten paksuudet, fasikkeleiden pituudet ja pennaatiokulmat. \n\nT\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen perusteella n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi silt\u00e4, ett\u00e4 staattisella venyttelyll\u00e4 voidaan havaita olevan akuutteja vaikutuksia nilkan ojentajalihasten maksimivoimaan ja kevennyshypyn korkeuteen sek\u00e4 tehoon. Maksimivoima heikkeni keskim\u00e4\u00e4rin 5,8 % v\u00e4litt\u00f6m\u00e4sti venyttelyn j\u00e4lkeen (p = 0,014), mutta palautui nopeasti venyttely\u00e4 edelt\u00e4v\u00e4lle tasolle eik\u00e4 tilastollisesti merkitsevi\u00e4 eroja havaittu 2, 4, 6 tai 8 minuuttia venyttelyn j\u00e4lkeen. Staattinen venyttely heikensi v\u00e4litt\u00f6m\u00e4sti venyttelyn j\u00e4lkeen my\u00f6s kevennyshypyn korkeutta (11 %; p = 0,005) ja tehoa (7,4 %; p = 0,002). Kahdeksan minuuttia venyttelyn j\u00e4lkeen korkeudessa ei en\u00e4\u00e4 havaittu tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4\u00e4 eroa pre-suoritukseen verrattuna. Sen sijaan tehon muutos oli merkitsev\u00e4 palautusajasta riippumatta. Gastrocnemius medialiksen lihaspaksuuden ja nilkan ojentajalihasten maksimivoiman v\u00e4lill\u00e4 havaittiin positiivinen korrelaatio (r = 0,595; p = 0,032), kun taas lihaspaksuuden ja kevennyshypyn korkeuden muutoksen v\u00e4lill\u00e4 negatiivinen korrelaatio (r = -0,691; p = 0,0089). Additionally, the study aimed to examine the significance of calf muscle architecture (gastrocnemius medialis and lateralis) on ankle isometric strength and jump performance. The study included a total of 14 healthy elite rhythmic gymnasts, all of whom were female. The participants were aged between 17 and 20 years. The study design was cross-sectional, meaning all participants underwent measurements on a single day. The study took place at the exercise laboratory facilities in Jyv\u00e4skyl\u00e4.\n\nParticipants first performed three maximal countermovement jumps with 30-second rest intervals. Following this, they underwent a 90-second assisted stretch for the hip flexors and quadriceps. Immediately after stretching, participants performed another maximal countermovement jump. The effect of the rest period after stretching on jump performance was examined by performing the countermovement jump again at 2, 4, 6, and 8 minutes post-stretching. A similar protocol was conducted for isometric ankle dorsiflexion following calf stretching.\n\nUltrasound imaging was used to measure muscle architecture. The ultrasound examination focused on the calf muscles of one leg (gastrocnemius medialis and lateralis). Ultrasound images were taken using the Telemed ArtUs device. Muscle thickness, fascicle length, and pennation angles were determined from the images.\n\nBased on this study, it appears that static stretching has acute effects on ankle extensor muscle maximal strength and countermovement jump height and power. Maximal strength decreased by an average of 5.8% immediately after stretching (p = 0.014), but returned to pre-stretching levels quickly, with no statistically significant differences observed at 2, 4, 6, or 8 minutes post-stretching. Static stretching also immediately reduced countermovement jump height (11%; p = 0.005) and power (7.4%; p = 0.002). At eight minutes post-stretching, there was no longer a statistically significant difference in jump height compared to pre-stretching. However, power changes remained significant regardless of the rest period. A positive correlation was found between gastrocnemius medialis muscle thickness and ankle extensor muscle maximal strength (r = 0.595; p = 0.032), while a negative correlation was observed between muscle thickness and countermovement jump height change (r = -0.691; p = 0.0089). Negative correlations were also found between gastrocnemius medialis pennation angle and changes in jump height and power (r = -0.678; p = 0.0077 and r = -0.634; p = 0.015). However, based on the results, no definitive conclusions can be drawn regarding the significance of muscle architecture on the acute effects of static stretching.
