Vesiekosysteemin ominaisuudet voivat kuitenkin vaikuttaa tuotettujen monityydyttym\u00e4tt\u00f6mien rasvahappojen \nm\u00e4\u00e4riin ja kulkeutumiseen, mutta t\u00e4t\u00e4 aihetta ei ole juuri tutkittu. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 pro gradu -ty\u00f6ss\u00e4 selvitin, onko hy\u00f6nteisravinnon tarjonta yht\u00e4l\u00e4inen tummavetisen, \nrunsasravinteisen majavaj\u00e4rven ja kirkasvetisen, v\u00e4h\u00e4ravinteisen majavattoman j\u00e4rven rannoilla sek\u00e4 mets\u00e4ss\u00e4. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkin, ovatko akvaattiset hy\u00f6nteiset\nterrestrisi\u00e4 hy\u00f6nteisi\u00e4 laadukkaampaa ravintoa monityydyttym\u00e4tt\u00f6mien rasvahappojen n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmasta ja vaikuttaako majavan toteuttama ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6nmuokkaus ja j\u00e4rvityyppi hy\u00f6nteisravinnon laatuun. Lis\u00e4ksi \ntarkastelin, hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4v\u00e4tk\u00f6 kirjosiepot akvaattista hy\u00f6nteisravintoa ja heijastuuko t\u00e4m\u00e4 kirjosieppojen veriplasman rasvahappoprofiileihin. N\u00e4ytteeksi \nker\u00e4ttiin hy\u00f6nteisi\u00e4 sek\u00e4 kirjosieponpoikasten veriplasmaa eri koealoilta. Analysoin n\u00e4ytteist\u00e4 rasvahappoprofiilit sek\u00e4 rasvahappojen yhdistespesifiset hiilen isotooppiarvot. Tulokset osoittivat, ett\u00e4 akvaattisen hy\u00f6nteisravinnon m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4 oli suurempi tummavetisell\u00e4 majavaj\u00e4rvell\u00e4. Akvaattiset hy\u00f6nteiset sis\u00e4lsiv\u00e4t terrestrisi\u00e4 hy\u00f6nteisi\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n pitk\u00e4ketjuisia monityydyttym\u00e4tt\u00f6mi\u00e4 rasvahappoja, ja runsaampi akvaattisen ravinnon hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4minen n\u00e4kyi \nmajavaj\u00e4rven poikasten veriplasmassa korkeampana fysiologisesti v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6mien rasvahappojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4n\u00e4. J\u00e4rvien ominaisuuksilla ei kuitenkaan ollut vaikutusta akvaattisen hy\u00f6nteisravinnon laatuun. They are transported into terrestrial food webs, for example, by insects which emerge from the water. The influence of aquatic ecosystem characteristics on the production and transport of these fatty acids has not been \nstudied extensively. My objective in this thesis was to examine the availability of insect food on the lakeshore of a dark-watered, eutrophic beaver lake and in the lakeshore of clear-watered, oligotrophic lake, as well as in the forest. Additionally, I aimed to determine whether aquatic insects are a higher quality food source than terrestrial insects in terms of polyunsaturated fatty acids, and whether beaver environmental modification and lake type affect the amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids in aquatic insects. I also examined whether pied flycatchers consume aquatic insects and if this is reflected in the fatty acid profiles of their blood plasma. I collected aquatic and terrestrial insects and blood plasma of pied flycatcher nestlings from different experimental sites. I analysed the fatty acid profiles and compound-specific carbon isotope values from the samples. The results of this thesis indicate that the amount of aquatic insect prey was higher in the beaver lake. Aquatic insects contain more long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids than terrestrial insects. The higher utilisation of aquatic food is reflected in the higher levels of physiologically essential fatty acids in the blood plasma of beaver lake nestlings. However, the characteristics of the lakes seem to have no effect on the quality of aquatic insects.
