Rasvahapot ja niiden johdannaiset ovat elimist\u00f6lle v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6mi\u00e4 molekyylej\u00e4, jotka toimivat energianl\u00e4hteen\u00e4, osallistuvat l\u00e4mm\u00f6ns\u00e4\u00e4telyyn ja immuunipuolustukseen, mink\u00e4 takia muutokset rasvahapoissa vaikuttavat yksil\u00f6iden kuntoon ja kelpoisuuteen. Hyv\u00e4laatuinen ravinto sis\u00e4lt\u00e4\u00e4 runsaasti fysiologisesti v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00f6mi\u00e4 \u03c93-rasvahappoja, joita tarvitaan useiden fysiologisten toimintojen yll\u00e4pit\u00e4miseksi. Ionisoiva s\u00e4teily on ymp\u00e4rist\u00f6muutos, joka voi suorasti tai ep\u00e4suorasti (elinymp\u00e4rist\u00f6n muutosten kautta) vaikuttaa eli\u00f6iden fysiologiaan, mutta jonka vaikutusta rasvahappoihin, erityisesti luonnonpopulaatioissa, ei ole tutkittu. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa selvitettiin, onko ionisoivalla s\u00e4teilyll\u00e4 vaikutusta T\u0161ernobylin alueen talitiaisten (Parus major) veriplasman rasvahappoprofiiliin ravinnon laadun selvitt\u00e4miseksi. Tutkimusalueena oli ainutlaatuinen T\u0161ernobylin ydinvoimalan onnettomuusalue, miss\u00e4 s\u00e4teilyn taso vaihtelee tavallisista taustas\u00e4teilyn tasoista (< 0,1 \u03bcSv/h) korkean s\u00e4teilyn tasoihin (30\u201357 \u03bcSv/h). Ravinnon heikomman laadun ja suoran stressin oletettiin s\u00e4teilyn seurauksena v\u00e4hent\u00e4v\u00e4n \u03c93-rasvahappojen m\u00e4\u00e4r\u00e4\u00e4 ja lis\u00e4\u00e4v\u00e4n oleiinihapon osuutta veriplasmassa. Eri s\u00e4teilyalueilta ker\u00e4tyt talitiaisten ja niiden poikasten veriplasman\u00e4ytteet k\u00e4siteltiin laboratoriossa rasvahappojen erottamiseksi, mink\u00e4 j\u00e4lkeen rasvahappojen pitoisuudet ja suhteelliset osuudet veriplasmassa selvitettiin. Tutkimuksessa huomattiin, ett\u00e4 ionisoiva s\u00e4teily lis\u00e4si oleiinihapon ja v\u00e4hensi pitk\u00e4ketjuisten \u03c93-rasvahappojen m\u00e4\u00e4ri\u00e4 poikasten veriplasmassa, mutta sill\u00e4 ei ollut vaikutusta lyhytketjuisten \u03c93-rasvahappojen osuuksiin. S\u00e4teily ei kuitenkaan aiheuttanut merkitt\u00e4vi\u00e4 muutoksia aikuisten talitiaisten rasvahapoissa. Fatty acids and their derivatives are molecules that provide energy, control inflammation and participate in body thermoregulation, and therefore changes in fatty acids affect the condition and fitness of individuals. A good quality diet is rich in physiologically essential \u03c93 fatty acids, which are needed to maintain a range of these physiological functions. Ionizing radiation is an environmental change which can directly or indirectly (through habitat changes) affect the physiology of organisms, but whose effect on fatty acids, especially in natural populations, has not been studied. The present study was conducted to investigate whether ionizing radiation has an effect on the blood plasma fatty acid profile of great tits (Parus major) in Chernobyl area. The study area was the unique Chernobyl exclusion zone, where radiation levels vary from high (30\u201357 \u03bcSv/h) to normal background levels (< 0.1 \u03bcSv/h). As a consequence of radiation, poorer dietary quality and direct stress expected to reduce the amount of \u03c93 fatty acids and increase the proportion of oleic acid in blood plasma. To achieve these objectives, blood plasma samples of great tits and their nestlings were collected from different radiation areas, and processed in the laboratory to extract fatty acids, after which the concentrations and relative proportions of fatty acids in blood plasma were determined. The study found that ionizing radiation increased the levels of oleic acid and decreased the amounts of long-chained \u03c93 fatty acids in nestling plasma but had no effect on the proportions of short-chained \u03c93 fatty acids. On the other hand, the irradiation did not cause significant changes in adult fatty acids.
