Tätä helpottamaan tehtiin tässä tutkimuksessa tietokanta ja hallintasovellus, jonka kautta ydinmateriaalivalvonnan toimia voitaisiin suorittaa. Tietokanta myös säilyttäisi tulevaisuuden sukupolville tähdellistä tietoa loppusijoitetusta ydinmateriaalista. Web-pohjaisen hallintasovelluksen kehityksessä käytettiin apuna käytettävyyden konsepteja. Suunnittelututkimuksen mukaan loppukäyttäjien joukko arvioi kehityksen iteraatioita, ja jatkokehitystä tehtiin arvioinneissa ilmenneiden epäkohtien ja toiveiden perusteella. Tutkimuksessa saatiin kehitettyä artefakti, joka on tarpeeksi käytettävä ja sopii ydinmateriaalivalvonnan toimintaan. Arviointien mukaan tärkeimmiksi alueiksi artefaktin käytettävyydelle nousivat toiminnallisuuksien rajattu määrä, joka auttaa niiden omaksumisessa, sekä looginen rakenne ja informaation esitys visuaalisesti. The first of its kind geological disposal project of spent nuclear fuel is being started in Finland. These spent nuclear fuel assemblies are under international agreements that must be upheld and monitored. From a nuclear safeguards point of view the disposable material should be verified to match its declarations and the locations of the disposed fuel recorded. The fuel is verified by measuring and using the results to analyze its content before geological disposal. To assist this the study created a database and a management application with which nuclear safeguards actions could be done. The database would also store the information about the disposed fuel for future generations. Concepts of usability were used as aid in the development of the web-based management application. According to the conventions of design science, an artefact that the end users evaluate was created and the feedback from the evaluations guide the development. The study resulted in an artifact usable and suitable enough for the uses of nuclear safeguards operations. According to the evaluations most contributing factors to the usability of the artefact were the limited and therefore easy to grasp amount of functionalities, logical structure and visualization of information.
