Lis\u00e4ksi tarkasteltiin, onko liikunta-aktiivisuudella ja unen muuttujien v\u00e4lill\u00e4 yhteyksi\u00e4. Matala-asteisella tulehduksella viitataan krooniseen inflammaatioon, joka on yhteydess\u00e4 moniin sairauksiin. Matala-asteisen tulehduksen riskin on havaittu nousevan tyypillisesti ik\u00e4\u00e4ntymisen my\u00f6t\u00e4, mutta siihen vaikuttavat my\u00f6s esimerkiksi elintavat ja kehonkoostumus. Etenkin liikunnan on havaittu olevan matala-asteista tulehdusta hillitsev\u00e4 tekij\u00e4. Sen tiedet\u00e4\u00e4n olevan kardiometabolisten eli syd\u00e4meen, verisuoniin ja aineenvaihduntaan liittyvien sairauksien lis\u00e4ksi yhteydess\u00e4 my\u00f6s aivoterveyteen ja muistisairauksiin. Sen vuoksi aihealueen tutkiminen on t\u00e4rke\u00e4\u00e4. Matala-asteista tulehdusta voidaan ilment\u00e4\u00e4 verest\u00e4 mitattavan C-reaktiivisen proteiinin (CRP) avulla. Kyseist\u00e4 muuttujaa k\u00e4ytet\u00e4\u00e4n my\u00f6s akuutin tulehduksen arviointiin, mutta sen ollessa vain v\u00e4h\u00e4n koholla 3\u201310 mg/l, voidaan puhua matala-asteisesta tulehduksesta. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytettiin alhaisten pitoisuuksien havainnointiin soveltuvaa herkk\u00e4\u00e4 CRP:t\u00e4 (hsCRP).\n\nTutkimus toteutettiin osana laajaa Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitoksen (THL) Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) -tutkimushanketta. Tutkittavat olivat tutkimuksen alkaessa 60\u201377-vuotiaita naisia ja miehi\u00e4 ja heit\u00e4 oli kaiken kaikkiaan 1259. Ainoat yhteydet l\u00f6ytyiv\u00e4t kehon painoindeksin (BMI) ja hsCRP:n sek\u00e4 liikunta-aktiivisuuden v\u00e4lilt\u00e4. BMI:n perusteella tehdyt ryhm\u00e4t erosivat hsCRP:n suhteen toisistaan usean ryhm\u00e4n kohdalla tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti. BMI oli yhteydess\u00e4 hsCRP:hen, mit\u00e4 suurempi BMI, sit\u00e4 suurempi n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi olevan my\u00f6s hsCRP-arvo, muuttujien v\u00e4lilt\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyi my\u00f6s korrelaatio (r = 0,313, p < 0,001). Lis\u00e4ksi suurempi BMI n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi olevan yhteydess\u00e4 alhaisempaan liikunta-aktiivisuuteen, sill\u00e4 BMI:n perusteella tehdyt ryhm\u00e4t erosivat toisistaan tilastollisesti merkitsev\u00e4sti ja lis\u00e4ksi muuttujien v\u00e4lilt\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyi korrelaatio (r = -0,167, p < 0,001). Liikunta-aktiivisuudella ei puolestaan ollut yhteytt\u00e4 hsCRP:hen tai uniaikaan. Liikunta-aktiivisuuden ja uniongelmien v\u00e4lilt\u00e4 l\u00f6ytyi kuitenkin korrelaatio (r = -0,061, p < 0,05), jonka mukaan n\u00e4ytt\u00e4isi silt\u00e4, ett\u00e4 alhaisempi liikunta-aktiivisuus olisi yhteydess\u00e4 suurempiin raportoituihin uniongelmiin. Uniaika tai uniongelmat eiv\u00e4t olleet yhteydess\u00e4 hsCRP:hen. \n\nJohtop\u00e4\u00e4t\u00f6ksen\u00e4 t\u00e4st\u00e4 tutkimuksesta voidaan todeta, ett\u00e4 vaikka hypoteesin mukaisesti liikunta-aktiivisuuden ja hsCRP:n v\u00e4lilt\u00e4 ei l\u00f6ytynyt yhteytt\u00e4, viittaavat yhteydet BMI:n ja hsCRP:n v\u00e4lill\u00e4 siihen, ett\u00e4 potentiaalisena keinona liikunta saattaa silti hillit\u00e4 tai ehk\u00e4ist\u00e4 matala-asteista tulehdusta, mik\u00e4li sill\u00e4 voidaan vaikuttaa kehonkoostumukseen suotuisasti. Unen ja hsCRP:n tai uniajan ja liikunta-aktiivisuuden v\u00e4lilt\u00e4 ei l\u00f6ytynyt yhteyksi\u00e4. Tulevaisuuden tutkimuksissa olisi mielenkiintoista tutkia liikunnan ja unen vaikutuksia matala-asteiseen tulehdukseen hy\u00f6dynt\u00e4m\u00e4ll\u00e4 subjektiivisen datan lis\u00e4ksi my\u00f6s objektiivisia menetelmi\u00e4 sek\u00e4 tarkastella mahdollisia interventioiden vaikutuksia.", "language": "fi", "element": "description", "qualifier": "abstract", "schema": "dc"}, {"key": "dc.description.abstract", "value": "The purpose of this study was to examine the association of low-grade inflammation with physical activity, body composition and self-reported sleep in Finnish women and men aged 66\u201377 years. In addition, the study investigated whether there were associations between physical activity and sleep variables. \n\nLow-grade inflammation means chronic inflammation which is linked to many diseases. The risk of low-grade inflammation increases with aging but other factors such as lifestyle and body composition affect too. In particular physical activity has been found to reduce low-grade inflammation. It is known to be associated not only with cardiometabolic (cardiovascular and metabolic) diseases but also with the brain healthy and memory diseases. Therefore, it is an important area of research. Low-grade inflammation can be expressed by C-reactive protein (CRP). The same parameter is also used to assess acute inflammation, but when it is only slightly elevated between 3 and 10 mg/L, it can be considered as low-grade inflammation. This study uses a high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP), which is suitable for detecting low levels of CRP.\n\nThis study was conducted as part of Health and Welfare Institute\u2019s (THL) Finnish Geriatric Intervention Study to Prevent Cognitive Impairment and Disability (FINGER) -research project. At the start of the study, the subjects were women and men aged 66\u201377 years. In this study the only associations were between body mass index (BMI) and hsCRP and between BMI and physical activity. There were statistically significant differences between the groups based on BMI for several groups. Higher BMI would appear to be associated with higher hsCRP scores (r = 0,313, p < 0,001). In addition, higher BMI would appear to be associated with lower estimate of physical activity, there was a statistically significant differences in average levels of physical activity between the groups based on BMI and correlation between variables (r = -0.167, p < 0.001). On the other hand, physical activity was not associated with hsCRP or sleep duration. However, a correlation was found between physical activity and sleep problems (r = -0,061, p < 0,05), suggesting that lower physical activity might be associated with higher reporting of sleep problems. Sleep time or sleep problems were not associated with hsCRP.\n\nIn conclusion this study suggests that no association was found between physical activity and hsCRP. However, the associations between BMI and hsCRP suggest that physical activity may still be considered as a potential means of controlling or preventing low-grade inflammation if it can influence body composition favorably. No associations were found between sleep and hsCRP or between sleep time and physical activity.
