Kysyn tutkimuksessa ensinn\u00e4kin yleisemm\u00e4ll\u00e4 tasolla, mik\u00e4 on erimielisyyden merkitys politiikalle Mouffen ja Palosen mukaan. Toinen tutkimuskysymykseni on, mik\u00e4 on heid\u00e4n mukaansa demokraattinen tapa t\u00e4m\u00e4n erimielisyyden ilmenemiselle. Lopuksi kokoan yhteen heid\u00e4n yht\u00e4l\u00e4isyytens\u00e4 ja eronsa vertailemalla teorioita toisiinsa. \n\nMouffe ja Palonen kritisoivat sellaista konsensusajattelua politiikassa, jonka mukaan politiikan teht\u00e4v\u00e4n\u00e4 on sovittaa vastakkaiset n\u00e4k\u00f6kulmat yhteen. Erimielisyys on heid\u00e4n mukaansa politiikan ja demokratian ehto ja ydin. H\u00e4n kutsuu agonistiseksi demokratiaksi malliaan, jossa konflikti on legitiimi\u00e4, eli v\u00e4kivallatonta samalla kun tunnustetaan, ett\u00e4 konfliktiin ei ole olemassa rationaalista ja kaikkia tyydytt\u00e4v\u00e4\u00e4 ratkaisua. Palosen mukaan erimielisyys on politiikan ydin. Palonen pit\u00e4\u00e4 parlamentarismia poliittisen toiminnan ideaalityyppin\u00e4, koska sen tarkoituksena ei ole luoda edellytyksi\u00e4 konsensuksen l\u00f6ytymiselle. The first research question concerns the significance of disagreement for politics according to Mouffe and Palonen, while the second examines the democratic mode for the expression of this disagreement. I will conclude by summarising the similarities and differences of the two theories.\n\nMouffe and Palonen criticise the notion of consensus in politics, according to which the purpose of politics is to reconcile opposing points of view. They argue that dissent is the very essence of politics. Accordingly, in a democracy, political consensus should only concern the respect for a certain set of rules and everything else should be open to fierce political struggle. According to Mouffe, conflict is a fundamental aspect of social life since identity forms as a difference to something else. In her agonistic model of democracy conflict is legitimate and non-violent, while recognising the impossibility of rational reconciliation. For Palonen, dissensus is at the core of politics. He considers parliamentarism to be the ideal type of political action since it does not aim to create conditions for consensus. Palonen regards parliamentarism as a way of dealing with controversies in a fair way, considering different points of view and respecting the adversary.\n\nThe comparison suggests that Palonen\u2019s ideal type of parliamentarism can be considered as one of the agonistic forms of democracy advocated by Mouffe. Many similarities exist in their theories, although they explain them in slightly different ways. The most important similarity is their view that politics require the recognition of disagreement. Secondly, they both argue that democracy requires a set of shared principles within which political dissent can be expressed.
