It encompasses various functions and devices, such as lighting, heating, security systems, and entertainment systems. Smart Home solutions are typically ready-made packages, including a central unit, actuators, and a manufacturer-specific mobile application. Research has highlighted challenges in home automation, especially regarding the fragmentation and compatibility of technologies. This work provides an overview of home automation application areas, presenting systems and devices from major manufacturers as well as manufacturer-independent platforms. It also describes the architecture of home automation systems and key data transfer protocols. Furthermore, it addresses the problems of integration and compatibility in\nhome automation systems and proposed solutions, such as Matter technology.
