One familiar solution is Face ID on the iPhone, which can be used to unlock a mobile device. Other common forms of biometric security include fingerprint, voice and iris recognition. Research shows that multi-faceted facial recognition has become one of the most widely used biometrics for analyzing consumer behavior. Biometrics has a number of potential uses in the retail sector, such as easier purchase, more personalized offers, increasing cost-efficiency, including the mitigation against identity theft. It is essential for retailers to understand how this digital transformation will affect the entire value chain. The impact of this change must be considered. Many obstacles need to be overcome for the biometrics to become an integral part of the retail. Challenges include, in addition to the cost of acquisition, customer concerns about the accuracy and functionality of biometrics and individual concerns about privacy. Biometric identification methods are based on detecting a person's features. The speed of changes has raised issues of data protection and the data management, which have implications for the horizontal application of biometrics. This bachelor thesis is a literature review on individual's preferences for the use of biometrics for the identification of loyalty customers in grocery stores. The reference material included in the literature review indicated that the benefits experienced by individuals were the ease of the shopping process and personalized service. As a potential threat, people perceived concerns about possible surveillance and privacy. Further attention should be paid to whether perceived value and trust shape customers' attitudes towards the use of biometric solutions.
