My\u00f6s pelaamisen tutkimus on lis\u00e4\u00e4ntynyt ja videopeleill\u00e4 on havaittu olevan paljon erilaisia positiivisia vaikutuksia. Etenkin kieltenoppimista on tutkittu paljon ja videopelien on todettu olevan hy\u00f6dyllisi\u00e4 kieltenoppimisen kannalta (esimerkiksi Reinhardt, 2019; Sundqvist & Sylv\u00e9n 2012; Uuskoski, 2011). Usein tytt\u00f6jen osuus n\u00e4iss\u00e4 tutkimuksissa on kuitenkin ollut melko v\u00e4h\u00e4ist\u00e4. Syyksi t\u00e4h\u00e4n on arveltu, ett\u00e4 tyt\u00f6t eiv\u00e4t pelaa, he eiv\u00e4t pelaa yht\u00e4 paljon kuin pojat tai he pelaavat erilaisia pelej\u00e4 (esimerkiksi Saarela, 2010; Uuskoski, 2011; Phan, Jardina and Hoyle, 2012). Perinteisesti tytt\u00f6j\u00e4 ei ole my\u00f6sk\u00e4\u00e4n v\u00e4ltt\u00e4m\u00e4tt\u00e4 hyv\u00e4ksytty osaksi videopelien maailmaa, esimerkkin\u00e4 t\u00e4st\u00e4 ongelmallinen Gamergate -ilmi\u00f6. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tutkimuksen tarkoitus oli selvitt\u00e4\u00e4, kokevatko tyt\u00f6t oppivansa kieli\u00e4 videopelej\u00e4 pelaamalla, tutkia heid\u00e4n pelik\u00e4ytt\u00e4ytymist\u00e4\u00e4n ja -mieltymyksi\u00e4\u00e4n sek\u00e4 kokemuksiaan niin videopelien pelaamisesta kuin kielenoppimisesta.\n\nAineisto ker\u00e4ttiin kyselylomakkeella, jossa oli sek\u00e4 suljettuja ett\u00e4 avoimia kysymyksi\u00e4, ja siihen vastasi yhteens\u00e4 84 naista. Osallistujien v\u00e4h\u00e4isyyden takia ja siksi, ett\u00e4 heist\u00e4 suurin osa oli suomalaisia, tuloksia voidaan pit\u00e4\u00e4 enint\u00e4\u00e4n suuntaa antavina ja ne tulee ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4\u00e4 Suomen kontekstissa. Tuloksista k\u00e4vi ilmi, ett\u00e4 vaikka suurin osa vastaajista koki oppineensa kielt\u00e4 videopelej\u00e4 pelaamalla, moni koki my\u00f6s, ett\u00e4 t\u00e4m\u00e4 ei n\u00e4kynyt heid\u00e4n arvosanoissaan. Etenkin sanaston ja luetun- ja kuullun ymm\u00e4rryksen koettiin parantuneen. Osallistujat kokivat, ett\u00e4 yhten\u00e4 isoimpana syyn\u00e4 t\u00e4llaiseen kielenkehitykseen on se, ett\u00e4 pelit ovat p\u00e4\u00e4osin englanninkielisi\u00e4, jolloin tarinan ja peliss\u00e4 etenemisen kannalta pelaajan on pakko oppia ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n pelin kielt\u00e4. Toisin sanoen tyt\u00f6t motivoituivat oppimaan kielt\u00e4 edet\u00e4kseen peliss\u00e4 ja nauttiakseen siit\u00e4 enemm\u00e4n.
