Menetelm\u00e4\u00e4 verrataan sek\u00e4 lineaaritribometrill\u00e4 ett\u00e4 testim\u00e4ess\u00e4 kellolla mitattuihin tuloksiin. Tarkoituksena on validoida GNSS-IMU -sensorin k\u00e4ytett\u00e4vyytt\u00e4 perinteisiin menetelmiin verrattuna. Lis\u00e4ksi tutkitaan luisto-ominaisuuksien vaikutusta hiihtosuorituksen osa-alueisiin. T\u00e4m\u00e4n tarkoituksena on auttaa ymm\u00e4rt\u00e4m\u00e4\u00e4n laajemmin sit\u00e4, millainen vaikutus suksen valinnalla on erilaisista maastonkohdista koostuvalla latulenkill\u00e4. Suksen luisto-ominaisuuksien mittaus kilpailunomaisissa olosuhteissa on ty\u00f6l\u00e4st\u00e4 ja aikaa viev\u00e4\u00e4. Lajille tyypillisiss\u00e4 olosuhteissa ei k\u00e4yt\u00e4nn\u00f6ss\u00e4 pystyt\u00e4 testaamaan pelkk\u00e4\u00e4 suksea, vaan testaus tapahtuu hiiht\u00e4j\u00e4-suksi -yhdistelmien v\u00e4lill\u00e4.\n\nTutkimukseen osallistui 25 hiiht\u00e4j\u00e4\u00e4 kahden p\u00e4iv\u00e4n aikana. Koehenkil\u00f6t hiihtiv\u00e4t suoritukset osana harjoituskilpailua, jonka aikana ker\u00e4ttiin tietoja useampaan alan tutkimukseen. T\u00e4ss\u00e4 tutkimuksessa k\u00e4ytetyt mittaukset tehtiin valokennoin aikaa mitaten alam\u00e4ess\u00e4, GNSS-IMU - sensorein edell\u00e4 mainitussa m\u00e4ess\u00e4 ja harjoituskilpailussa. Lis\u00e4ksi k\u00e4ytetyt sukset mitattiin lineaaritribometrill\u00e4. Mittaustuloksia analysoitiin kvantitatiivisin menetelmin tarkoituksena l\u00f6yt\u00e4\u00e4 korrelaatioita eri tulosten v\u00e4lill\u00e4. Keskeisimm\u00e4t vertailtavat tiedot olivat GNSS-IMU - sensorein mitattu maksiminopeus, testim\u00e4en kellotettu laskuaika ja suksien kitkakertoimet.\n\nTutkimuksella oli kolme keskeist\u00e4 tulosta. Ensimm\u00e4iseksi, laboratorio-olosuhteissa lineaaritribometrill\u00e4 pelkille suksille tehdyt mittaukset eiv\u00e4t toistu kentt\u00e4olosuhteissa hiiht\u00e4j\u00e4- suksi -yhdistelmill\u00e4 tehdyiss\u00e4 mittauksissa. Toisin sanoen sukset, jotka on todettu kitkakertoimeltaan hyviksi, eiv\u00e4t automaattisesti ole nopeat hiiht\u00e4j\u00e4st\u00e4 riippumatta. The method is compared to results from a linear tribometer and traditional timed test glides in a downhill ski track. The aim is to validate the results from the GNSS-IMU sensor against the traditional methods. In addition, the impact of the measured glide properties on different parts of a cross-country ski competition course is studied. The aim is to understand how the ski selection could impact the performance throughout different parts of the track. In general, the ski testing procedures are time consuming and laborious. In practice skis alone cannot be studied in competition-like conditions, but instead the measurements are done on skier-and-ski combinations.\n\nA total of 25 skiers took part in the research measurements for 2 days. Before, during and after a practice-competition various data was collected and measurements taken for the purpose of several studies within one major research project. This specific study utilized timed runs in a ski testing downhill, GNSS-IMU collected data from the competition course and linear tribometer measurements from the cold laboratory. The data was analyzed using quantitative methods with the aim of finding correlations between some data sets. The focus was on the maximum speed from the GNSS-IMU device, timed downhill runs and the coefficients of friction.\n\nThe results can be summarized in three main points. Firstly, the measurements done with the linear tribometer in a cold-climate laboratory cannot be transferred to skier-and-ski combinations in typical cross-country skiing conditions. In other words, a pair of skis with a small measured coefficient of friction are not necessarily fast for every skier. Secondly, when the same test runs in a dedicated ski test downhill were both timed with a traditional photodetection device and measured with the GNSS-IMU device, both techniques gave similar results (r = 0, 9267 ***). The GNSS-IMU measured maximum speed was a good measurement for ranking the skier-and-ski combinations in terms of glide properties. Lastly, the results from the dedicated ski testing downhill are only partly transferrable to the actual cross-country skiing competition on a loop course. The skier-and-ski combinations which timed fast times for the test runs were also fast on the longest downhill section of the competition track (r = 0,7256 ***). In the other parts of the course no link between fast ski test runs could be found.\n\nThe results support previous findings regarding the specific linear tribometer used. The differences in glide friction coefficients between the different ski pairs were in the magnitude of thousandths, which seem to be extremely small compared to other variables related to the skiers and the environment.
